Jamie C. Russo

On January 23, 2023, Jamie Russo age 62 of Alexandria, VA passed away from metastatic breast cancer. Jamie was a 45 year survivor of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Jamie was born to Carol and Joe Russo, Patchogue NY. She attended St. Francis de Sales, Patchogue NY, Class of 1974, Mercy High School, Riverhead NY, Class of 1978 and Catholic University of America School of Nursing, Class of 1983. In August 2019, Jamie married Chris von Guggenberg of Alexandria, VA Jamie’s nursing career spanned over 30 years in the Washington DC area beginning as an Operating room nurse at Georgetown Medstar Hospital and Sibley Memorial Hospital. Her career continued as a research nurse at The Breast Care Clinic and The Bio-Bank of The Murtha Cancer Center. Jamie coached patients on healthy life style practices at The Integrative Cardiac Health Clinic, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. She was a graduate of The Barbara Brennan School of Healing and a Reiki Practitioner. Jamie brought intuitive healing to her patients, family and friends. Jamie was a very kind loving spiritual person who always found goodness in everyone and everything that surrounded her. Jamie loved life. Those who her knew her well will always recall her “joi de vivre” and her buoyantly warm welcoming smile that would fill your heart and fill a room with a special glow. Jamie loved that she was 100% Italian with both familial sides having strong Italian family roots. She was most proud of her Italian lineage from her great grandparents to her grandparents, her parents and siblings, her aunts and uncles, and all her crazy Italian cousins, nieces & nephews. Jamie loved being around children and adored babies. Jamie loved the family and friends she shared with Chris. They enjoyed spending time with the large von Guggenberg family as well as their extended circle of friends they called their Virginia family. Together with Chris, Jamie loved walking in nature, sailing, cycling, the beach, music, yoga and meditation. Jamie enjoyed many hours reading and she loved to learn. Jamie is survived by her spouse, Chris von Guggenberg, her siblings, Eric (Barbara) Russo, Paula (Tom Raspet Sr.) Russo, Susan (Ted) Chumas and Joseph (Quentin Miller) Russo Jr. Jamie is predeceased by her parents, Carol and Joseph Russo. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 12 noon located at St Rita’s Catholic Church 3815 Russell Road, Alexandria VA 22305.
