Virginia Marie Lynch

Of Springfield, VA, died June 11, 2022. She was the daughter of Walter and Stella Wodnicki from Pittsburgh, PA. Virginia was predeceased by parents, brother Walter Jr, and her husband, Gene. Survivors include sons Michael Lynch, William Lynch, Brian Lynch; daughters Kathleen M. Pepper, Pamela Ott; grandchildren, Jeremiah, Sammy, and Kristopher Pepper, Michelle Appel and Matthew Lynch, Courtney and Julianna Ott; great grandchildren Ben and Alexis Pepper, and Logan Appel. After high school, Virginia who went by Ginny attended and graduated from Westinghouse Technical Night School. She happened to first meet her future husband as part of her First Holy Communion class. She married her husband after he graduated from USMA and began an adventure as part of the Army life starting in Germany followed by several stops in the States over the next couple of decades. Ginny and her husband settled in Northern Virginia as her husband’s military career transitioned to civilian life and finally into retirement. Ginny was a stalwart supporter of her husband’s military career and like other Army wives took care of her family and home when her husband was stationed in Korea during peacetime or when he served in the Vietnam war. She was a positive, sociable, friendly, and happy person with a great sense of humor who made friends easily. She enjoyed bowling, bridge, sewing, arts & crafts making decorations, cooking, popular music, jigsaw puzzles, playing board and card games with her children teaching how to have family fun, hostessing social events including the best birthday parties, volunteering in the community at various military bases, den mother for the Boy Scouts, Rolling Valley Swim Club, food and party planning for youth soccer and baseball teams plus team phone trees. She was the family communicator, photographer, and historian with meticulous chronicling of family pictures of time, place, and people. She enjoyed supporting her Washington and Pittsburgh football teams and attended many Pirates baseball games with her family. Ginny was a wonderful mother, aunt, grandmother, and great grandmother who loved her family and made countless sacrifices for her family. She celebrated her faith as a member of Nativity Catholic Church in Burke, VA for over four decades. She moved into The Fairfax at Belvoir Woods Retirement Community when her husband Gene, passed away in 2019. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in honor of Virginia M. Lynch either to Alzheimer’s Association or American Heart Association. A Funeral Mass will be offered at the Old Post Chapel, Ft Myer on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, interment at Arlington National Cemetery, and a reception hosted by the family for family and friends immediately thereafter at the Officer’s Club.
