Stella Mae Petitt

Stella Mae Petitt (Meemaw), 83, of Lorton, Va, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family on Sunday May 17, 2026. Stella was born on April 14,1943 in Alexandria Va. She was the oldest of Nine children. She had five sisters and two brothers, all of whom she loved dearly. She was married to the love of her life, Charles Edward Petitt Jr. for 44 years and they lived a beautiful life in Lorton, Va, where they had three children; Teresa, Dawn, and Charles. Her children were the light of of life. Charlie and Stella owned their business Champs Delivery and Warehousing, where she was the bookkeeper. She also worked for Fairfax County Schools as a lunch lady for years. (She absolutely adored children). In her free time Stella enjoyed vacations to her condo on the beach in Ocean City Md. she also enjoyed visiting her siblings in Harrisonburg Va. and watching murder mysteries like Dateline. But her favorite pass time was SHOPPING. She kept the roads hot to and from the malls, and she was on a first name basis with the workers at Savers where she enjoyed using her senior discount. However, there was one thing that Stella loved more than shopping and that was being Meemaw to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was blessed with seven grandchildren whom she loved deeply, who then in turn blessed her with ten great grandchildren whom she may have adored just a tad bit more. She loved hosting. Having her family over on the weekends was probably her favorite thing, especially in the summer when she could watch the kiddos swim in the pool. She always made everyone feel welcome. Family and friends alike. She was an amazing cook and hosted many family gatherings. There really is no easy way to sum up the life of such an amazing woman, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She was adored by everyone who knew her. She was the Matriarch of our family and she will be missed beyond measure. Stella is survived by her daughter; Dawn M. Kane her son; Charles Edward (Kimberly) Petitt III, Seven Grandchildren; Danielle Pick, Wesley Wildman, Erica Kane, Billy Kane, Charles Edward Petitt IV, Tyler Petitt,Taylor Petitt and Ten Great Grandchildren; Laila, Kaia, Conor, Lakelynn, Charles V., Mason, Claire, Teagan, Ivy, and Stella. Stella was preceded in death by her Husband Charles Edward Petitt Jr. and her Daughter Teresa A. House. Services will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2026 at Jefferson Funeral Chapel; 5755 Castlewellan Dr, Alexandria, VA 22315. Visitation (11:00a.m.) Service (12:00p.m.) followed by a graveside service at Mount Comfort Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, please make a donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in memory of Stella.
