Sandra Kay Sloper

Sandra Kay Sloper, of Alexandria, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 2nd, 2023. She was born on February 14, 1938 in Richmond, Virginia to Annie Ray Wright and Walter Thomas Seay. When Sandra was two years old, her family moved to Alexandria, Virginia. She was an active child and a fan of sports. One could often find her surrounded by friends or playing softball, which she continued to play well into her twenties. After graduating from highschool, she met her husband, Edward Leroy Sloper (1930-1997). The couple was married in early 1959 and shortly after, welcomed their first daughter, Sheri. After having their second daughter, Terri, the family moved to the newly-built Hayfield Farm neighborhood in 1965. The Slopers spent three decades in Hayfield, having two more daughters, Robin and Lisa. While raising her daughters, Sandra worked dutifully for the Federal Government for over 30 years, retiring in 1997. Throughout her life, Sandra spent as much time as she could at the beach with her friends and family. Later in life, Sandra and Edward built a home in Colonial Beach on the banks of the Monroe Bay and the two lived there until his death in February 1997. Sandra is survived by her four daughters, Sheri Lynn Sealock, Terri Leigh (Ronnie) Sloper, Robin Kay (Kenneth) Hamilton, and Lisa Gayle (Sean) Moseley. She is survived by her brother, Walter Thomas Seay II and his four children. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Jessica Petitt, Edward Schick, John Sealock III, Mara Sealock, John Fines II, Sean Moseley, Justin Moseley, Jillian Moseley, Jayden Moseley and six great-grandchildren: Garrett Friedman, Addison Friedman, Skye Maas, August Taylor, Asher Taylor, with one more expected to arrive this year. She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward Leroy Sloper, her parents, Walter Thomas Seay and Annie Ray Wright, and son-in-law, John Wesley Sealock II. Known to her friends as ‘Sandy,’ to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as ‘Nana,’ and to her daughters as ‘Mother,’ she will be deeply missed, but forever remembered by all who knew and cherished her. Having been a faithful wife and devout Christian, her friends and family find solace in knowing that she is at last reunited with her late-husband, Edward, and under the eternal care and protection of Our Heavenly Father.
