Patricia Lucille Morton

Patricia Lucille Morton (Pat, Patti), age 70, passed away peacefully in her home on February 5, 2018. She is preceded in death by her husband, Commander Theodore Morton, and parents, Milford and Jacqueline Watson. Survived by daughters, Maggie (Jim) Colucci, and Allison (Darren) Day; stepchildren, Linda Morton and Scott (Nancy) Morton, and ten grandchildren. Pat was born in Union City Pennsylvania on February 14, 1947. Her father was in the Army so they moved frequently while she was in grade school spending several years in Germany before settling at Fort Lee in Petersburg, Virginia. After graduating from Petersburg High School, Pat attended the Medical College of Virginia and became a licensed radiology technician. After college, Pat decided it would be fun to spread her wings and fly for a bit before taking a job related to her studies. Pat joined United Airlines as a flight attendant. She had promised her parents a trip to Hawaii and once she earned her wings, she did just that! Pat continued to fly until she met her husband Ted and settled down to have children in Alexandria, Virginia. Pat devoted herself to her family as a full-time stay at home mom while her children were young. Once her children reached junior high school Pat went back to work part-time as a radiology technician for The Virginia Hospital Center (1986-2005). There she was referred to fondly as “Mamma Bear” and was considered the Mother of Radiology. Upon her retirement, Pat got her hands dirty spending most of her days creating an amazing floral oasis in her yard. During the colder months Pat enjoyed creating beautiful floral arrangements and wreaths for friends and family. Pat took great pride in her role in decorating the venues for both of her daughters’ weddings. After the devastating and sudden loss of her husband of 39 years, Pat moved in to Heatherwood Retirement Community in Burke, Virginia. There she became fast friends with her neighbors and enjoyed participating in all the events there with her little loyal canine companion, Dewey. Those who had the opportunity to meet her never forgot her. Pat had a strong spirit and a warm presence that radiated her character. Her smile lit up the room and her laugh brought a calm and comfort that put everyone at ease. As her friends and family mourn her mortal loss, we must find peace in knowing that she has once again found her wings that will allow her to soar free of her mortal limitations. While she is now free to be, she will never stray far. For her love for her family and dear friends will keep her close to help guide and protect us all until we are all together again.
