Obituary for Charles Andrew Frey

Charles Andrew Frey (age 77) passed away peacefully on January 26, 2018, at his home in Springfield, VA. He was born December 8, 1940, in Columbia, PA, to Charles Andrew Frey and Vivian Fisher Frey, who both predeceased him.
Following graduation from Columbia High School, Charlie served in the U.S. Navy before moving to the Washington, DC, area to begin a civilian career that spanned more than 30 years with the federal government. Attending evening classes while working full-time, he earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a master’s degree in legal studies from Antioch School of Law in Washington, DC.
During his career, Charlie served as cryptographer with the Central Intelligence Agency, industry economist with the Federal Maritime Commission, management analyst with the U.S. Navy, and management and budget analyst with the Defense Logistics Agency, until his retirement in 1998.
In retirement, he enjoyed studying the U.S. Civil War, shooting skeet, reading voraciously on any subject from fiction to philosophy, working in his wood shop, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Charlie is survived by his daughter Heather Frey Willis, son-in-law Heber Charles Willis III, grandchildren Elizabeth and Charles Willis, of Arlington, VA; sister Toni Ann Loftus and brother-in-law Paul Loftus of Mountaintop, PA; sister Jacqueline Vaughn Frey of Pittsburgh, PA; and nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery later this year.
