Nancy Wingfield Tomford

Nancy Wingfield (Dalton) Tomford, 69, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 surrounded by family. She is survived by her husband, Ronald Tomford; her daughters, Kirsten D. Lewis and husband Chris and Keri D. Click and husband David; seven grandchildren, Krystal, Ryan, Katie, William, Mia, Dylan and Jackson; and one great-grand child, Nova Jade. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Helen Wingfield and her brother, Edward A. Wingfield, Jr.; and many other loving family and special friends. Nancy was an amazing woman that devoted her life to her family. As a natural caretaker, she worked hard to provide a loving home for her family. She loved spending time with each of her grandchildren and making special memories with them. She was a devoted friend and unwavering source of care and support to anyone in need. With a passion for crossword puzzles, country music, gardening, family vacations to the outer banks and the occasional gambling trip, Nancy lived her life to the fullest. Nancy was a 1965 graduate of Lane High School, Charlottesville, Va. She went on to attend Smithdeal-Massey Business College and began her Federal service career at the Army's Judge Advocate General School. In 1977, while assistant to the Director of the Federal Executive Institute, Nancy was appointed to a key position in the U.S. Civil Service Commission and moved to the Washington, D.C. metro area. Over the next 35 years Nancy went on to have a highly successful professional career in the human capital management arena, holding key leadership and managerial positions at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, U.S. Department of Energy and Northrop Grumman. She received multiple performance and special achievement awards throughout her Federal and Civil careers. A visitation with the family will be held at Jefferson Funeral Chapel, 5755 Castlewellan Drive, Alexandria, VA on Saturday, January 30, 2016 from 2-4PM. A viewing will be held at Hill & Wood Funeral Home, 201 1st St. North, Charlottesville, Virginia 22902 on Saturday, February 6 from 1PM until time of service at 2PM. Interment immediately following at Holly Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Food For Others, a charity Nancy was passionate about supporting. www.foodforothers.org.
