Mildred Cuyle Fritzinger

A longtime resident of Alexandria, Virginia, Mildred passed away Thursday, August 25, 2022 at the amazing age of 103 and 2/3s. She is met in heaven by her loving husband Harry Thomas Fritzinger, her son Tom, and her many kitties (including Ginger, who adored Mildred and hated everyone else). Best known to her large family as Mom, Mommie, or Granny, Mildred is the loving mother to Katherine Farmer (Paul), Thomas Fritzinger (Anne), Kay Cogswell (Michael), Kurt Fritzinger (Elaine), Karl Fritzinger (Cindy), and Karol Kaldenbach (Ken); grandmother of Andy P, Jamie, Thomas, Cindy, Joe, Bill, Jenny, Cathy, Scott, Eric, Mat, Andy K, Matt, Laura, and Kate; great-grandmother of Zoe P, Aidan, Joren, Baby Girl Poush, Tommy, Nathaniel, Braden, Levi, Gabriel F, Audrey, Scarlett, Sam, Victoria, Caroline, Zachary, Zoe K, Matt, Katie, Abigail, Nicholas, Noah, Gabriel K, Samuel, Timothy, Jacob, Joshua, Theon, Lauryn, and Christian; and surrogate grandmother to many others who adore her. Mildred was born on December 31, 1918 in Hazelton, Pennsylvania to Charles and Carrie Cuyle. During high school in Hazelton, she was described in the yearbook as a “tall, striking brunette who is much admired”. The admirers included her beloved Harry, and after their reconnection during a dance at a local Hazelton dance hall, they married on Mildred’s birthday in 1941. In the following years, Harry and Mildred moved to several different states during Harry’s service with the US Army. They also worked on expanding their family with the birth of their 6 children, although two sets of twins was certainly not in the original plans! When not busy taking care of her family and trying to keep them out of trouble, Mildred was an accomplished seamstress, knitter, and baker, best known for her hubbard squash pie and zucchini bread. She was also an active member of Cameron UMC, a proud member of DAR, and enjoyed bridge days with her many friends. Once empty nesters, Mildred and Harry enjoyed a fantastic retirement filled with travel. After visiting most every state in the United States, they loved exploring the world and visited 26 countries, with their favorite places being Scotland and Australia. They also enjoyed spending time both visiting and hosting friends and loved ones. It was not uncommon to find Mildred and Harry surrounded by laughter (and a bit of chaos) during the holidays, with 30+ people and 4 dining tables set up in their home. Mom, Mommie, Granny or Mildred, she will be missed by the many people who’s lives she touched during her 103 and 2/3s years.
