Michael "Mikey" Layne Hall Sr.

On September 26, 1989, a beautiful baby boy, Michael Layne Hall, affectionately known as "Mikey," was born in Arlington, Virginia to Schelley, Jr. and Cynthia Hall. From the very beginning, he brought joy to those around him with a bright smile, a loving heart, and a gentle spirit. During his 36 years of life, Mike blessed family and friends with laughter, unforgettable memories, and a love that will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew him. As a young boy, Mike was full of energy, curiosity, and a love for life. He began his educational journey at Saint Charles Catholic School, in Arlington, Virginia, where he attended kindergarten through 4th grade, building the foundation for his early years. He later continued his education and graduated from Garfield High School in Woodbridge, Virginia, with the Class of 2007. After graduation, Mike pursued further education at Northern Virginia Community College before discovering that automotive technology was his true passion. That passion led him to Advanced Technology Institute, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where he earned an Associate's Degree in Automotive Technology. Becoming a master mechanic was more than a career choice—it was something Mike genuinely enjoyed and took great pride in. Whether working on a vehicle, sharing his knowledge, or helping someone get back on the road, he used his talents to make a difference for others. Beyond his work, Mike found happiness in the things that brought him closer to the people and passions he loved. Riding bikes since he was old enough to walk gave Mike a passion for anything with two-wheels, this passion stayed with him throughout his life. Growing up, Mike played football, baseball, and soccer, eventually settling into football and becoming a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan. He enjoyed working on cars, spending time with family, and creating memories with “his boys.” These interests reflect the adventurous, fun-loving spirit that made him who he was. While Mike enjoyed many things in life, nothing compared to the joy he found in becoming a father. His son, Michael Hall Jr. ("MJ") was forever the greatest blessing in his life and the source of so much happiness. Becoming a dad was one of Mike’s proudest moments, and the love between father and son was undeniable. Mike treasured every moment he spent with MJ, from everyday memories to special milestones. His son was truly the joy of his life, and the bond they share will continue to live on forever. To know Mike was to know someone who brought warmth and happiness wherever he went. To family, he was "Mikey." To some of his coworkers, he was affectionately known as "Smiley," a nickname earned because of the smile -as wide as the ocean- that could light up any room. To his friends, he was simply Mike—the person they could call on, laugh with, and count on to make any moment better. Mike had a way of making people feel like they belonged. He loved life, loved his family, and never missed an opportunity to enjoy the moment. Whether he was working on a car, grilling out back, telling a story, joking with friends, or making memories with loved ones, Mike embodied a genuine joy that people will always remember. He was a devoted father, a loving son, a caring brother, a proud uncle, a cherished fiancé, and a loyal friend. The impact Mike made was not only in the things he did, but in the way he made people feel when they were around him. On July 19, 2026, in Woodbridge, Virginia, Michael Layne Hall, entered into his rest with Jesus. Although we wish we had more years to share with him, we are grateful for the 36 years of love, laughter, and memories. Michael was preceded in death by his maternal grandfathers, Norman Summers and Albert Wilds, and his paternal grandparents, Schelley Hall, Sr. and Alice Hall. Mike’s love and the memories he created will continue through family and friends who were blessed to share life with him. He will forever be cherished by his greatest joy, his son MJ. He will forever be loved by his mother, Cynthia Hall; father, Schelley Hall, Jr.; sisters, Myesha Hall and Lorriane Alicia “Lisa” King; fiancée, Brittney Dunkley; nephew, Rhys Davis; niece, Rhayne Davis; grandmother, Mable B. Wilds, along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and dear friends who each hold special memories of Mike in their hearts. Mike’s smile, laughter, and love for family will continue to shine through every memory shared by those who love him. Mike’s legacy will not be measured by the years he lived, but by the depth of the love he shared and the many hearts he touched. Though he is no longer with us in person, the love he gave remains present in every story told, every laugh remembered, and every treasured moment.
