Gerardine Ann Moore

Gerardine (Gerry) Ann Moore, 74, of Alexandria, Virginia, passed away amid her loved ones at Inova Alexandria Hospital the morning of October 28th, 2023. She was born December 7, 1948, in Jamaica Hospital in Queens NYC to Frank Maggiacomo and Gerardine Maggiacomo (nee Nitsch), she was the eldest daughter among the 5 siblings. Her older brothers Frank (deceased in 2002) (Kathy) and Peter (Jeanette) were followed by a sister Dolores (Charlie), brother Jimmy (Paulette) and finally Margaret. She managed to evade Catholic School and eventually graduated from Southern Connecticut University in Education. She taught in Somers High School for 20 years, forming a close bond with her co-teacher and lifelong friend, Don Pelligrino and her other bestie, Betsy Johnston. In 1988, she married Michael and survived a long-distance relationship for 3 years to eventually join him in Redondo Beach California. Enterprise Rent-a-Car was fortunate to hire her as they were expanding into the area and rose to become their area’s facilities manager, opening many new offices as they grew into the largest Agency in the Nation. It was a wonderful time, made more wonderful by meeting her great friends, Brenda and Matt Kuhn who have been here through everything. When Michael finally got Gerry’s dream assignment to the Washington DC area, she continued working with Enterprise until 2016. Finally retired, she began to work with TWIG which ran the formats consignment shop in Alexandria taking leadership positions with the volunteer organization. In addition, she volunteered with the Office of Presidential Correspondence where she made many lifelong friendships with many of the young staff. Aside from these things, Gerry was known in the neighborhood and out for her massive Christmas Brunch and decorating flair with up to 5 fully decorated trees and no shelf unadorned. 4th of July was also epic with water slides and BBQ for everyone. Gerry was an intrepid traveler and visited much of the US, Europe and even Parts of South and Central America, though foiled by Covid and war from visiting her last trip to Ukraine. As a consolation, she went on the maiden trip of the Viking Polaris to Antarctica, in spite of her diagnosis the month before with ALS. It was this same ALS that reduced her to mobility and silence and finally caused her untimely death. In addition to her sisters and surviving brothers, she is aunt to Debra (Walter), Dina, Denise (Ken) and Dennis (Denise); Jeffrey; Kaitlyn, Charlie, Jennifer (Sam) and Georgie (Heather). She was a Great-Aunt to Matt, Kristina, Travis, Austin, Shane, Hunter, Lucy, Ruby, Henrick, and Arden. Also, Great-Great-Aunt to Hazel and Cooper. She was stepmother to Briana Victory, grandmother to Brooke, Kierstan and Clayton, and great grandmother to Rose, Sylvia and Jackson. Family and friends are invited to a gathering at Jefferson Funeral Chapel, 5755 Castlewellan Dr Alexandria Virginia 22315 on Saturday, November 4th, 2023, from 10 – 11 am.
