Donald Matthew Rogan

Rogan, Donald ALEXANDRIA, VA. 86 died on January 21, 2025 peacefully at home. Born in Albany, NY on November 15, 1938, he was the son of Francis and Ann Smith Rogan. Loving husband to Catherine Rogan; beloved father to Donald Rogan Jr (Joy) of Melbourne, FL, Christine Letsen (John) of Dumfries, VA and Sheri Rogan of Melbourne, FL; brother to Patricia Donnelly (John) and the late Francis M. Rogan (Mary); grandfather to Jason and Jordan Letsen, and Uncle to many nieces and nephews. He will truly be missed. LTC. (retired USA) Rogan served his country as an Infantry Officer In the United States Army for 23 years with great loyalty, dignity, honor and integrity. During his years, he loved being with the troops. He served as a Personnel Program Management Officer. Don earned the Bronze Star Medal (1 OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (1 OLC); Air Medal; Army Commendation Medal(3 OLC); Army Achievement Medal; Army Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal//Vietnam Service Medal (6)/Army Service Ribbon (2)/Overseas service Ribbon Vietnam Campaign Medal// Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm//Combat Infantry Badge// Republic of Vietnam staff Service Medal// Overseas Service Bars(3). He graduated from Tampa University with a BA in Human Resources Management and Psychology. He earned a Master’s degree in Psychology from Pepperdine University. After his retirement from the Army, Don did Meeting Planning and Military Contract Work. In addition to his Military Career, Don spent many years doing Community and Church Volunteer work. As a young Army officer, he did an immense amount of sports activities be it a baseball umpire and basketball referee with the troops; in the Canal Zone he coached the Blues Baseball team and brought them to victory! He also was very involved with the Boy Scouts of America leading a Boy Scout Troop. Whenever there was a need, Don always stepped up. After retirement, he joined the Knights of Columbus Council 5998. Before his time as a Knight, he served in many different ways of service. He is a Past Grand Knight and also a member of the 4th Degree. There is a special place in our hearts for the Men who call themselves Knights of Columbus. A viewing will be held on January 31, 2025, from 10 – 11AM at St. Louis Catholic Church followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM. Burial to be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to St Louis Catholic Church Building Fund: 2907 Popkins Lane, Alexandria, VA 22306, Poor Clare Monastery, 2505 Stone Hedge Dr Alexandria, VA 22306 or the Knights of Columbus Council 5998, 8592 Richmond Hwy Alexandria, VA 22309.
