Don Ernest Stott

Don Ernest Stott; known as "Ernst" to many friends and family. Beloved husband and friend, Don Ernest Stott left us on October 5, 2013. Ernst was born in Washington, D.C. on August 4, 1953. Ernst attended Woodson High School where he enrolled in Cosmetology School. Ernst continued to pursue a career as a hairstylist. His competitive spirit, immense talent, magnetic personality and outstanding work ethic made him one of Northern Virginia's most renowned and successful hairstylists. Ernst's charisma endeared him to a large number of clients, many of who have remained loyal for decades. He was creative, designing beautiful, precise haircuts and gave the gift of making his clients feel special. All his clients were his extended family and he enriched their lives as they did for him. Ernst was a chemist at heart. He was a creator of color and high- lightening techniques and attended many workshops side-by-side with Nick Arrojo and his amazing team in Soho, New York. For several years, including 2013, he made his annual trip to NY to learn something new that he could bring back to his hairstylists and clients. He was inspired and educated by the best. As a young man, his mentor was Eugene Barlow (Eugene Hairdressers) and they remained close friends until his passing. Ernst opened his own Hair Salon on February 8, 1992; "Ernst and Co. Hair Salon" located in Springfield, Virginia which continues to thrive due to the staff embracing his work ethic. A remarkable staff that has only shown support, love and devotion to the most good-hearted and generous man you would ever know. There was never a day that you did not walk in the Salon that Ernst did not have a joke or a story to tell. He was a story-teller and loved to laugh with everyone. November 2, 2002, he married Brenda DuVall-Mason and they embarked on an adventure together that should have lasted forever. They met in 1994 and were very devoted to each other. They were yin and yang. He was a Leo and she, a Libra; totally opposites, but soul mates forever. Ernst loved boating, all kinds of music, reading, traveling to the islands and driving his bright yellow 2002 corvette. He loved having friends and family around. He immensely enjoyed entertaining and everyone was always welcome to his home. Ernst was a proud, special, and complicated man. He will be remembered for his photogenic memory, being a storyteller, being funny, loving life and having endless generosity. He was an active member of the Washington, DC, Parrot Head Club. He loved going to Jimmy Buffet concerts, as well as Bruce Springsteen, Huey Lewis, and the last concert he was able to go to was Paul McCartney of July 2013. Ernst's greatest joys were his love of Golden Retrievers; Bozworth, Finnegan and his 1-1/2 year - young Alex. He always wondered why a sea turtle could live for 100 years, but a friend and devoted family member, as our Golden Retrievers would live a much shorter life. For many years he was a loyal Redskin season ticket holder. He loved tailgating with friends and watching the game. Ernst loved to decorate the Salon for Halloween and dress up for the Shopping Center Children's parade. He loved to come up with different costumes each year. Thanksgiving and Christmas was special to him. He loved the fellowship of friends and family. Ernst for many years would go see the Rockettes in New York and go shopping at Christmas time. Every year, the Salon has an Open House at Christmas time for all the Staff and Clients. He will be truly missed this year. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Stott of Alexandria, Virginia, his father, Don Samuel Stott, Montrose, Colorado, his mother, Pansy Yeatts, Stephens City, Virginia, half-sister Stephany Bayne, his half-sister, Melissa Thompson, St. Remy, New York, and half-brother, David Stott of Verona, Wisconsin, his niece, Michelle Eads and two children, Tyler and Evan Coble of Stephens City, Virginia.
