Susan S. Cole

February 10, 1948 - April 11, 2022

Susan Josephine Sledge Cole, age 74, of Alexandria, VA went home to her Heavenly Father on Monday, April 11, 2022. Susan was born on February 10, 1948, to the late James and Marie Sledge in Welch, West Virginia. Susan grew up in Welch with her parents and two brothers Jim K and Pat. She graduated valedictorian from Welch High School class of 1966. She studied biology at West Virginia University where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree. There she met and fell in love with Raymond Cole Jr. They enjoyed hiking, canoeing and caving together along with their friends of the WVU Outings Club. They married in 1974 and settled in Alexandria where they raised their 3 children: Michael, Kimberly, and Jason. Before devoting her life as a mom, Susan was a passionate researcher of biology. She served as an active leader in her children’s Boy Scout and Girly Scout Troops. Susan herself was a Girl Scout and achieved the highest award, known as the Curved Bar at the time. Susan was predeceased by her beloved husband Raymond and brother Pat Sledge. Susan is survived by her 3 children and her brother and his spouse, Jim K and Lynette Sledge. Her funeral mass service will be held at 11am on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at St. Louis Catholic Church at 2907 Popkins Lane, Alexandria, VA. A reception will be held at the church following the mass service. Inurnment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in memory of Susan to the American Cancer Society (https://www.cancer.org/) or to World Vision (https://www.worldvision.org/) to support families affected by the Ukraine crisis.
