Pauline Louise Rose Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Pauline Louise Rose of Arlington, Virginia passed away on Wednesday May 25, 2022. She is preceded in death by her parents, Dellwood Charlton and Dorothy Elizabeth Rose, her sister, Charlene Orvac-Rose and her special friend, Ross Ebersole. She is survived by her friends, June Caton, Daniel Bergin, Calvin Crenshaw, Monique Green, Noelle St. Amant-Aden and a host of friends/staff at Community Living Alternative. Polly was born in Washington, DC at Sibley Hospital. She lived with her mother, sister and father until the age of 15 when she was admitted to Lynchburg Training School and Hospital in September 1955, for uncontrollable seizures. She moved to Northern Virginia Training Center in 1974, at the age of 33. In describing her life at the training center “I’m glad I got out of that place; I hated it”. In 1992, Polly was offered an opportunity to obtain her own apartment with the assistance of Community Living Alternatives (CLA). She jumped at the chance and relished the independence of having her own apartment. She developed a strong bond with her then residential counselor, Calvin Crenshaw. Regarding her relationship with Calvin, she stated, “We’ve known each other for forty years! That’s longer than some people have been married”. Polly worked for over 20 years at Service Source’s EPA mailroom researching unidentified mail. She loved her job and was described as a hard worker. Polly retired in 2006; and she enjoyed a life of leisure spending time with friends, family and preferred staff. Polly had an infectious personality and was admired by all that knew her for her strength, grit, ability to speak her mind and fierce determination to protect and maintain the independence that she was denied early in her life. A memorial service will be held at Jefferson Funeral Chapel on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at 11AM. A lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Feed the Children in Pauline’s honor.
