Michael Andrew Edmondson (47) Of Alexandria, Virginia passed away on August 3rd, 2024. Loving husband of Angela Edmondson (Luciano), beloved father to Dominic and Grace, Son of Curtis Edmondson and Lesslee Valentini and dear brother of Christopher Edmondson and Steven Edmondson. Mike was born in Moline, Illinois and was always a gifted student and athlete. Recruited as a wrestler, he earned an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy and was known by all his classmates as a fun and loving friend. At the Academy, he developed a brotherhood of close friends that remains the bedrock of his support network to this day. He graduated from the Academy in 1999 and spent the next 23 years faithfully serving his country as a reconnaissance pilot. Mike was a gifted aviator and was often recognized for his flying skill and natural ability to teach others. Over his distinguished career, Mike logged countless moves, deployments and thousands of hours flying around the globe under the flag of the USA. Mike met his beloved wife Angela in August of 2002 in Omaha, Nebraska as young Air Force Lieutenants. They were married in 2003 and spent the next 9 years living a life of travel and adventure as the two best friends, DINKS (dual income, no kids) and Air Force officers. But Mike’s passion true passion was revealed in 2012 when he became a dad. Dominic was born in 2012 while they were stationed in Hawaii and Grace followed in 2015 in Nebraska and completed the Edmondson family. Mike was a loving and supporting husband and was the world’s best dad. He was the ultimate sports dad, vacation planner dad, fix it dad, grill master dad, and Amazon gadget shopper (seriously, he was out of control!). He also gave the best hugs. His warm smile, infectious laugh and generous nature made Mike the friend that everyone could count on. After retirement from the Air Force, Mike also excelled as “house dad” as Angela completed her last Air Force Assignment. He started work again as a commercial pilot in 2022 and quickly established himself again as a trusted colleague and aviator. The family had recently returned to Northern Virginia, and Mike was already hard at work planning for the family’s future and ensuring the kids had the kind of life they deserved. Mike always had his priorities in order, he was a shining example of what a husband, father and man should be. Mike’s life was tragically cut short by a blood clot in his heart. His death was sudden, tragic and devastating, but he would want everyone to follow his example to always put your family first, let go of your grudges, and never pass up an opportunity to have fun with the ones you love. Family and friends may call at Jefferson Funeral Chapel, 5755 Castlewellan Drive, Alexandria, VA 22315 for a visitation on Tuesday, 13 August 2024 from 2-4 and 6-8PM. A funeral service will be held at the Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling Chapel on 14 August 2024 at 1100. Interment will follow at Arlington National Cemetery on a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mike’s memory may be made to the gofund me account set up in their name. Angela intends to divide all contributions between a local youth sports charity and Dominic and Grace’s college savings accounts. Access to Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling requires a DoD Identification card. If you do not have DoD ID card, to expedite entry to the base, we request you contact Airman Anthony Hollister from the Bolling Chapel at (202) 284-3075 no later than Monday, 12 August. Be prepared to provide your name, social security number and a Real-ID compliant Identification number (ex. Driver's license). If you miss this deadline, you can still access the base using the normal visitors pass process but be advised that it will likely take at least an hour, so plan your travel accordingly.
