Marjorie May Simms 84, of Alexandria, VA passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2022. Beloved wife to the late Joseph Lawrence Simms Sr.; loving mother of Joseph L. Simms Jr. (Annie) and Brenda L. Furr; grandmother to David and Michael (Amanda); great-grandmother to Mikey and Lexi. She will truly be missed by many. A lifelong resident of Franconia, Margie attended Franconia Elementary School, Mount Vernon High School, and graduated in the first class of Annandale High School. She worked at the Pentagon, and later as a Fairfax County school bus driver for over 20 years, before starting and growing a construction and drywall business with her husband, Bo. In her later years she could be found working at the counter of the Honeybaked Ham Company store on Franconia Road, where she developed lasting friendships with her coworkers. Grandma or "Gigi" was a strong and active supporter of the Franconia Museum, a longtime congregant of Accotink United Methodist Church and later, Franconia United Methodist Church, and a member of the Mount Vernon "Lunch Bunch." She possessed a strong and abiding faith, and lived her faith throughout her life, caring for her family, her friends, her church, and her community. Those who love her remember her as a truly selfless woman, who always put others ahead of herself. She was a caring and beloved sister and daughter, wonderful wife, and an incomparable mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Relatives and friends may call at Jefferson Funeral Chapel, 5755 Castlewellan Drive, Alexandria, VA 22315, on Thursday, June 16, from 5PM-8PM. Funeral service will be held on Friday, June 17, 11AM. Interment directly following at 12PM at Mt. Comfort Cemetery, Alexandria, VA.
