Obituary for Lonnie Bothwell Adams III

Lonnie Bothwell Adams III, Col, US Army (Retired) passed away on December 22, 2018 surrounded by family. Husband and best friend of 43 years to his beloved Patricia; devoted father to Anne-Marie, Mary-Frances Vivarelli (Daniel), Mary-Katherine Batterton (Shawn), and Lonnie B. IV (Jill); adoring grandfather of Isabelle, Emilie, Elisabeth, Benjamin, Lonnie B. V, Elise, Wesley, and Peter; loving brother to Jean (Dian), Claire Kanyha (Paul), and William (Teresa); caring brother-in-law and uncle; and steadfast companion to many loyal friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie B. Jr, LTC, US Army (Retired) and Francoise; and brother James. A graduate of West Point's class of 1969, he served honorably as a Field Artillery officer for twenty-five years across the globe. An avid learner, he earned his MBA/ORSA degree early in his career and at the bookend, completed an MS in Finance. Upon transitioning from active duty, he worked as a consultant to the Army. A true friend, he will be remembered by his West Point classmates, fellow soldiers, family and friends as an honorable and compassionate soul. His indomitable spirit is truly missed and provides an indelible example of unwavering lifelong faith and exceptional personal courage especially as he fought health battles in his later years. The family will receive family and friends at Jefferson Funeral Chapel, Alexandria, Va January 3 from 6-8 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Raymond of Penafort Roman Catholic Church, Springfield, Va January 4 at 11 am. Interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial contributions can be made in Lonnie B. Adams III name to the Little Sisters of the Poor charity and the Eternal Word Television Network non-profit organization.

The Little Sisters of the Poor are an international congregation of Roman Catholic women religious founded in 1839 by Saint Jeanne Jugan. Together with a diverse network of collaborators, they serve the elderly poor in over 30 countries around the world.

The Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) is an American basic cable television network which presents around-the-clock Catholic-themed programming.
The mission of EWTN is to serve the orthodox belief and teaching of the Church as proclaimed by the Supreme Pontiff and his predecessors.
EWTN is a cause Lonnie supported and believed in deeply. EWTN gave him great comfort and he utilized the platform to strengthen his faith and devotion to Jesus after his stroke.
