Jo Carolyn Moyer Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Jo Carolyn Moyer 84 of Alexandria, VA passed away December 26, 2021 with her son by her side. She was born to Paul A. Milam and Hazel Milam on October 19, 1937 in North Carolina. Jo graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1955. She was married to the Joseph Glynn Moyer in 1956. They lived a brief period on the Virginia coast while Joseph was in the Navy. They then moved back to Alexandria, VA where they would spend the rest of their lives. Jo is survived by two children, Derek Moyer of Bracey, VA and Deidre Lingerfelt of Bristol, TN. She is also survived by one grandchild and one great grandchild. Jo Carolyn was predeceased by her husband in 2014. Jo was a loving mother who gave everything to her children and was an accomplished businesswoman and community leader. After raising two children to the age of 16, Jo then turned her attention to the business world and found her career. Jo broke barriers for women by becoming a Director at Comsat and Freddie Mac then, later, taking a vice president role at Lee Hecht Harrison. She loved the interaction with her colleagues and the challenges of being a woman in a man’s world. She made so many friendships and developed so many personal relationships that would last her a lifetime. Jo was a member of the Franconia Baptist Church for over 60 years. She served the congregation in a variety of ways, including as a church Trustee. She also gave direction and provided oversight to the FBC Preschool. She loved her Savior, was a beloved sister in Christ, and will be greatly missed. A viewing will be held on Thursday, January 6, 2021 from 4:00PM-8:00PM at Jefferson Funeral Home in Alexandria, VA. The celebration of life will take place at 1:00PM on Friday, January 7, 2021 at Franconia Baptist Church in Alexandria, VA with a graveside service to follow at Mount Comfort Cemetery at 2:00PM
