    Janice H. Pickering

    August 19, 1946 - March 16, 2022

Janice H. Pickering, a native resident of Alexandria, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, following a lengthy term of Alzheimer’s disease. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Billy George Pickering, her parents, James Edward and Elsie Marie Hall and ten brothers and sisters. She is survived by her two sons, Edward Pickering (Mayra) and Nicholas Pickering, her grandchildren Harper and Gigi, siblings, John Hall and and Joyce Hall, and numerous nieces and nephews. Janice was employed for many years with the federal government at the US Patent & Trademark Office where she achieved consistent advancement to high level positions until her retirement, at which time she was able to pursue her interest and activities. She loved traveling, gardening, cooking, exercise, and serving others. During her working years she was able to visit several international locations. Sometime into retirement she took a part-time job at the Hollin Hall Senior Center helping with crafts, leading exercise classes, serving meals, along with caring conversation. She created the most beautiful gardens around her home. With the gardens established and only weeds to pull, she took to daily walking for exercise. Janice also joined the Red Hat Society where she made many friends. On weekends she surveilled yard sales for precious items needing a new home! She loved animals and always opened her home to a new stray. Above all, she was a devoted mother. Her children always took priority in seeing to their care, happiness and interests. She was a good sister to her family members, hosting family gatherings at her home, opening her home to those who needed a place to stay, helping others wherever she could, and taking the time to visit family and friends to spread a little cheer. Janice will be inurned at Alexandria’s Mount Comfort Cemetery, and a Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a tax-deductible donation is preferred to an Alzheimer's Association of choice in Janice’s honor.
