Janet E. Simmons Also known as Gran, Janet E. Simmons, of Springfield, VA, passed away on May 4, 2022, peacefully in her home. Beloved wife for 40 years to the late Orville L. Simmons; cherished mother to Joan Allison Simmons-Tadlock; loving grandmother to Justin and Tyler Tadlock, Jorge DelCid, and great grandmother to Daniel Romero Lopez. Preceded in death by her parents Henry and Margaret Lunceford, brother’s Wally and Bo Lunceford, and sister Joan Moore. She will be missed by many. Janet was born on June 7, 1936, in Alexandria, VA. She attended George Washington High School and later attended Radford University. Between 1968-1990 Janet served as a Kindergarten Teacher at Garfield Elementary, Forestdale Elementary, and Crestwood Elementary. She was an avid softball player and received the Outstanding Female Athlete for the City of Alexandria. Janet created the first Math and Language Arts research lab, “Space Lab” in the Fairfax County Public Schools. Janet was an 18-year member of The Eastern Star Chapter #169 and served as President of Star Point Society. Janet’s hobbies included sewing and cooking. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Eastern Star Chapter #169/Masonic Order Mason’s or a charity of your choosing.
