May 19, 1963 - October 23, 2020
James "Jim" Michael Moreland, age 57, a faithful servant to his Lord who lived by grace through faith in Christ passed away peacefully on October 23, 2020 in Alexandria, VA, following a long fought battle with an unexpected stroke. He was born in Rockville Center, New York to James and Ethel Moreland on May 19, 1963. He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Moreland, and his adoring daughters, Victoria "Grace", Oliva and Sophia, as well as mother, Ethel, sisters Jean (Bob), Christine (John) and Sharon (Brad); father-in-law Roger Fritzel and mother-in-law Helen Fritzel, sisters-in-law Valerie Warren, Susan Achbezf, and brother-in-law Mark Fritzel; as well as many nieces and nephews. Although he was predeceased by father, James Anthony Moreland, he is survived by many extended relatives in the New York area. Jim married the love of his life, Carolyn (Fritzel), on September 22, 2001 after meeting through the Alexandria Jaycees. Together they continued their community service work, with Jim serving proudly as the President of the Alexandria Jaycees in 2002. Jim made many life-long friends during his time in the Jaycees enjoying special events, such as, the construction of the annual Haunted House and the Christmas tree sale. A proud Eagle Scout, Jim was also an avid cross-country runner at Mount Vernon High School, and completed 11 Marine Corps Marathons before transitioning to daily walks. He was a loving and devoted husband, and a doting Dad, who enjoyed coaching and supporting his daughters, as they excelled in both athletics and academics. Jim was also a loving son, kind brother and wonderful friend. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Compassion International to honor Jim's life. In addition, the family is forever appreciative for all those who provided prayers, spent time visiting Jim, and compassionately supported the Moreland family, after Jim's stroke. A small gathering of family and friends will take place at 3pm on October 25 at Jim's church, Word Of Grace Christian Church in Herndon, VA.
