September 20, 1949 - November 5, 2020
Haddie I. Higham, age 71, a faithful servant to her Lord who lived by grace through faith in Christ passed away peacefully at home on November 5, 2020 in Alexandria, VA. She was born in Dillner, PA to Ray and Lena Hixon on September 20, 1949. She is survived by her loving husband, Robert Higham Jr., and her adoring daughters, Lisa Hodge (Robert) and Teresa Olson (David); as well as step-sons, Wesley Higham and Donald Higham (Natalie); Gram’s beloved grandchildren: Nicholas, Zachary, Jacob, Brooke Olson and Dillion Higham as well as Stephanie and Claire Hodge and Carly Bearor; and great grandchildren. She was also survived by her siblings, Alene Phillips and James Hixon (Joan) and her nieces and nephew, Ravenna Dods, Rebecca Roby (Glenn) and David Hixon (Naomi); and great nieces and nephew. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Lena Hixon and brother-in-law, Willis Phillips. As a single mom, Haddie raised her daughters to be kind, loving and compassionate just as she was with her same profound faith in God. In 1990, she met the love of her life, Bob and married in a beautiful ceremony on July 7, 2001. They spent 30 wonderful and loving years together. Being members of The Elks Lodge, they enjoyed going to conventions with friends, they loved dancing, and hosting after church celebrations. The two of them laughing together will be a cherished memory for all. Haddie worked as a legal secretary throughout her career, retiring from Sutherland, Asbill and Brennan after 22 years of service. After retirement, Haddie joined “the little church by the side of the road,” (Mount Calvary Community Church) where she worked as the secretary and became a member of The Mount Calvary Singers. Singing was one of her favorite things to do and brought so much joy to anyone who heard her. She was well respected and much loved by all of the lives she touched. Our mother will be remembered as the nurturing, caring, funny, extremely generous person who would light up the room as soon as she came through the door. Several times we have heard that our mother was “one of God’s angels on Earth.” For us, being her daughters has been the greatest gift that God ever gave. She always said to us, “I’m glad you are mine.” Well, “Mom, we will forever be grateful that YOU were ours.” Friends will be received on Thursday, November 12, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Jefferson Funeral Chapel, 5755 Castlewellan Drive, Alexandria, VA 22315, with services to be held on Friday, November 13, 2020 at 11:30 a.m. Interment will immediately follow at National Memorial Park. The family asks those that are attending to observe social distancing and to wear a face mask. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution in Haddie’s memory to the Mount Calvary Community Church, 6731 Beulah Street, Franconia, VA 22310.
