Frederick Arthur Beeken

Frederick A. Beeken passed away on April 8, 2022, at the age of 93, having lived a long, full life. Fred was born on June 9, 1928 in Buenos Aries, Argentina to William and Elsa Beeken. He was born a U.S. citizen as his father was a member of the personal staff for the US Ambassador to Argentina. Fred’s family moved to Washington D.C. with the Ambassador. Fred grew up in Georgetown and in 1962, moved to Arlington VA, where he lived the remainder of his life. He served in the United States Marine Corps from June 1948 to June 1952 remaining proud of his service throughout his life. As a young man he raced on Daytona Beach when races were held on the beach and the only equipment added to the car was a cooler for the beer. He worked 30 years for Western Electric. In retirement he traveled and enjoyed social activities with his beloved square dance partner, Helen Berry. He was an avid gardener and loved tinkering in his workshop. Fred was predeceased by his brother, William Anders Beeken, and his sisters Ingrid Beeken Welch and Karin Beeken Reynolds. He is survived by many nieces and nephews, including Shirley Beeken and Sylvia Beeken-Hiner, and nephew Kevin Beeken, who cared for Fred in his last years and will miss his affable personality and his stories about his life. Family and friends are invited to an informal gathering between 2 – 4 pm on Saturday, April 23 at Jefferson Funeral Chapel, 5755 Castlewellan Drive, Alexandria, VA 22315. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, 6 Herndon Avenue, Annapolis, MD 21403, or a charity of your choice. .
