On November 2, 2021 this world offered up a genuine servant of God with the passing of Everlene Britman Strickland in Springfield, Virginia. Everlene was born in Blytheville, Arkansas on Wednesday, January 31, 1940 to Earl and Lillian Britman. She had nine siblings: Earlene, Earnest, Lessie, Frances, Gloria Gean, Eddie Mae, Lillian, Floria, and Leroy. Everlene graduated from Richard B. Harrison High School in Blytheville, Arkansas in 1958. In high school she loved math, excelled in shorthand, typing, and was a majorette in the band. After living in Chicago, Illinois for one year after graduation, Everlene returned to Blytheville to marry the late Jimmie Lee Strickland and committed herself to serving as a military wife of the United States Armed Forces (Army) for 29 years. They had two daughters, Eileen and Earlean. Everlene worked in both retail and business management positions within the Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) career fields. Everlene took an interest in sewing at a young age and became a talented seamstress who enjoyed sewing for others as well as for herself. She found joy in getting together with her sewing friends to spend quality time over a hobby they loved. Everlene’s other hobby was bowling. She enjoyed participating on a local bowling league for many years. She was known by friends and acquaintances as a kind and lovely lady. Everlene converted to Catholicism at an early age and became a long time member of St. Bernadette Parish in Springfield, Virginia. Later in life, Everlene enjoyed helping raise her grandchildren. Everlene leaves to cherish her memories: Two daughters, Eileen Taylor (Mark Davis) and Earlean (Victor) Chambers; grandchildren, Brent Taylor, Mallory (Ari) Hassell, Christian and Ian Chambers; great-grandchildren, Ashlyn Henderson, Cameron and Carson Taylor; five sisters Lessie (Clinzo) O’Daniels, Frances Wiggins, Eddie Mae (Earl) Pegues, Lillian (John L.) Lewis, and Floria Jean Hunt; and a host of other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her father Earl Britman; stepfather, Leroy Hunt; mother Lillian Britman Hunt; two sisters Gloria Gean Britman, Earlene Spencer; two brothers, Earnest C. Britman, Sr. and Leroy James Hunt.
