    David Michael Shawler

    August 27, 1946 - July 20, 2021

    ARLINGTON, VA — David Michael Shawler, 74, passed away on Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at his home, surrounded by his wife Zenia and his family. He was born August 27, 1946, in Piqua, OH to the late Roy and Imogene (Swob) Shawler. He married Zenia T. Shawler on August 6, 1988, in Arlington, VA; He is survived by his beloved wife Zenia, his five children, Antonette (Mark) Matsunaga of Clarksville, MD, Mark (Vesta) Dimatulac of McLean, VA, Stephanie Renee Shawler of Manassas, VA, Christine Marie Shawler of Fairfax, VA, Michael (Stephanie) Dimatulac of Ashburn, VA; 10 grandchildren, Andrew (Kirsten) Matsunaga, Kevin Matsunaga, Lauren (Dalton) Waller, Jonathan Matsunaga, Alyssa Dimatulac, Janine Dimatulac, Mia Dimatulac, Mark Dimatulac, Jordan Dimatulac, Cameron Dimatulac; and 4 sisters, Judy (Dale) McClure of Kettering, OH, Linda (William) Jones of Englewood, OH, Margaret (David) Bates of Piqua, OH, Connie (Donald) Gehret of Fairborn, OH. After graduating from Piqua Central High School in 1964, David enlisted in the United States Army. He served in Vietnam and later was stationed in Fort Belvoir, VA as a Stock Control and Account Specialist. He was employed for 30 years at the Munsey branch of Union Trust and held the following positions: Assistant Manager, VP Manager at G Street NW Branch, and lastly, a Trust Department VP Officer. After retiring from the banking industry, he worked another 12 years as an Information Technology Specialist at the Pentagon. He was also a survivor of the September 11, 2001 attack of the Pentagon. Most recently, David volunteered at the Virginia Hospital Center in the Cardiology-Pulmonary Rehabilitation Department. He was very involved in his church, Faith EPC in Kingstowne, VA. He enjoyed collecting Pepsi-Cola memorabilia, loved spending time with his family, and traveling with Zenia around the United States and abroad. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, July 29 at the Jefferson Funeral Chapel, 5755 Castlewellan Drive, Alexandria, VA 22315. A memorial to honor his life will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 30 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Capital Caring Health at https://www.capitalcaring.org/
