Charles E. Roberson

Charles E. Roberson Col. USAF (Ret.) Col. Roberson was a gifted administrator who served his Nation in not one, but two distinguished careers. Achieving the rank of Colonel, he ended his Air Force military career of thirty years as deputy for Logistics, Headquarters Air Force Systems Command, Andrews Air Force Base. He served in major command responsibilities in the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and Okinawa. He also served as a certified Titan II missile combat crew member in Arkansas. In the midst of all these responsibilities he earned an MBA degree from the University of Texas in Austin. This training prepared him for the major tasks that lay ahead. In 1987 he became the deputy for Logistics, Headquarters at Andrews. During his military career, Col. Roberson earned the Senior Missileman Badge. In addition his military awards include the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Combat Readiness Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry. Following thirty years of exemplary service to his Nation, Col. Roberson retired from the Air Force in 1988. Retirement was not a word or concept that fitted Col. Roberson. Therefore in 1989 he began what was to be another distinguished career with the Veterans Administration in Washington, DC as Director of Field Operations. After serving in a variety of capacities with the VA, Mr. Roberson was appointed Associate Deputy Assistant Secretary for Finance, Logistics, and Business Services in October 2007. He was responsible for the operation and oversight for VA's Revolving Supply Fund, including Human Resources and Information Technology. During his service at the VA, he received two Presidential Rank Awards, demonstrating his exceptional performance in support of Veterans, awards approved by the President. Mr. Roberson was also the recipient of three VA Robert W. Carey Awards, that recognized his management approaches that resulted in sustained high levels of performance and service to Veterans. Following twenty two years of distinguished service in the VA, Mr. Roberson retired in September of 2010. Upon his retirement he received the rarely awarded Department of Veteran Affairs Distinguished Career Award. For all these accomplishments, he will be remembered most as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all who knew him well.
