Carol Ellen Roode Mayer Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Carol Ellen Roode Mayer, 83, of Alexandria, passed away peacefully in her sleep Tuesday, May 31, 2022. She is survived by her loving daughters; Noreen, Debbie (Greg), Lisa, Linda (Ardy), and Patti (Laine); stepson William (Diane), stepdaughters Kathy (Carl), Joan, Virginia and Marianne (Bob); 20 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, six siblings, numerous nieces and nephews and many, many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Eva Roode, brother Kenny Roode, and husband William S. Mayer. Carol was born in Boston, Massachusetts on August 8, 1938 and graduated from the Jeremiah E. Burke High School for Girls in 1956. Through the years, she was an amazing homemaker, educator and award-winning realtor, but will be best remembered as "Nana" to her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Carol especially loved to cook and bake, and her signature coffee cakes were coveted by all. She always put others above herself and was incredibly loving, thoughtful, and generous to all those she met and knew. She was an avid reader and cookbook collector, loved playing cards and board games, and was a champion free cell player. She also enjoyed traveling, time in her yard, and gardening. As a sports fan, Carol spent many years attending Redskins games at RFK and cheering on her favorite teams, the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox. Services for Carol Mayer will be held at Jefferson Funeral Chapel, 5755 Castlewellan Drive in Alexandria. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 7 from 5 to 8 p.m. and her memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 8 at 11 a.m. She will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery alongside her husband at a later date.
