August 27, 1942 - December 25, 2020
Carl Edward Glover (78) Passed away peacefully on Friday, December 25, 2020 of Lorton, VA. Beloved husband of 50 years to the late Gloria Mauk Glover; cherished father of Robert T. Glover (Marcy); brother of Norma Gene Webb (Earl) and the late Robert T. Glover; half brother of the late Emma Kennedy (Skip) and Josephine Hosack. He will truly be missed by many. Carl was born on August 27, 1942 in Butler County Pennsylvania to the late Ernest and Bernice (Bovard) Glover. After graduating from Slippery Rock High, he entered active service in the United States Army serving his beloved Country until he was honorably discharged as a Sergeant First Class. Carl’s service also included time in the Active Reserve and Virginia National Guard. Once moving into the Active Reserve, Carl began working for the Superior Court of the District of Columbia working as a Deputy Clerk of the Court, and he found his church home at Barcroft Bible Church, ultimately meeting his beloved wife, Gloria, while singing in the choir. Continuing his call to service, he joined the Fairfax County Police Department in 1969 where he retired as a Master Patrol Officer in 1988 after 20 calculated years of service to the citizens of Fairfax County and the Commonwealth of Virginia at the old Groveton, “The Highway,” and Franconia Stations. Carl was known to be a tough Field Training Officer resulting in many of his trainees having their own rewarding careers to include one future Chief of Police. After retiring from the Fairfax County Police Department, Carl worked as the Manager of the former Hunter Motel and Restaurant in Newington, Virginia. Unfortunately, in 1993 Carl became the victim of a violent robbery resulting in serious injuries that would forever change him. After recovering, Carl then went to work for AAA North America as a Supervisor earing yet another retirement. Even with a second pension secured, Carl once again went to work for the Fairfax County Police Department as a civilian Public Safety Communications Assistant assigned to his old station, Franconia. Carl was an active member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church where he and Gloria sang in the choir, actively attended services, and participated in the senior programs. Carl also served as Deacon, and he devoted much time to Church business and upkeep. Carl enjoyed collecting coins, photography, woodworking, needlepoint, cooking, baking, and music. He knew his limits though as a “handy man”, Carl would not touch any electrical work, but you could trust his plumbing would not to leak. Carl was an active member of both the American Legion and the Fairfax County Retired Police Association. Visitation will be held at Jefferson Funeral Chapel Alexandria, VA. Please contact the family for details out of an abundance of caution due to COVID-19. Funeral service will be held at Lighthouse Baptist Church, 5901 Wilton Rd. Alexandria, VA 22310, on Tuesday, January 5, 2021, at 10:30 AM. Interment directly following at Quantico National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his honor to the Lighthouse Baptist Church.
