Zoila Leonor Naranjo

Zoila Leonor Nuñez Vélez de Naranjo “Noshita”, 97 years old, of Alexandria, VA, cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother departed this world for heaven on February 1, 2021 Noshita was born on July 27th, 1923 in Cuenca, Ecuador to Rossa Delia Velez and Carlos Nuñez She was raised by her parents in Cuenca. In 1946 she married Luis Alberto Naranjo and together they had 9 children that Noshita proudly raised. She was a tireless mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Standing at just 5 feet 1 inch, she was the true embodiment of a powerful woman larger than life who gave everything to her family and afforded them opportunities with constant support and pride in all that they accomplished. She rejoiced in spending nearly a century loving her family and watching each new generation arrive, always offering advice and encouragement. She immigrated to the United States in 1977 where she lived in Washington DC and later Alexandria Virginia for 44 years. Proud of becoming a United States Citizen, but always traveling back to Ecuador yearly to visit family, friends, and share gifts and gossip with those from her homeland. She was adventurous but steadfast, kind, charismatic and always joyful with a huge smile on her face for anyone and everyone. She was a devoted Catholic with deep faith, love and compassion for others, living her values daily and praying for everyone in her life. She was the life of the party always dancing to her children’s guitar playing and occasionally doing some tequila shots. She loved traveling and spending time with her family. Above all, she was a tremendous card shark, shaking her little coin purse to bring her family to the card table and without remorse beating everyone every chance she had. Noshita has joined her husband, her parents, siblings Luz Mila, Carlos, Argentina, Virginia, Francisco, Luis, and her dear first-born son Jaime. She is survived by her beloved children Elsa, Luis, Patricio, Teodoro, Ivan, Ana, Javier, and Giovanni; her treasured grandchildren Galo, Patricio, Paul, Ximena, Cristian, Luis Felipe, Juana, Geovanny, Diana, Carlos, Esteban, Marcella, Michael, Daniel, Valerie, Ariana, and Gabrielle, 26 precious great grandchildren, her siblings Magdalena, Enrique and Laura and many nieces and nephews.
