Virginia "Ginny" Ann Garbers

Virginia Ann Garbers “Ginny” (80) passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 due to complications from Type I Diabetes. She was the beloved wife of Charles Garbers; mother of Lynn Crawley (Alika) and Daniel Garbers (Lynn); sister of Joyce Spearman (Tom) and Dennis Gibson (Linda); grandmother of Madison, Aden, Marissa and Skyler. She will truly be missed by her family members and friends. Ginny was born in Washington, D.C. and was a District of Columbia resident in her younger years. Later on, her family moved to Oxon Hill, Maryland. Ginny graduated from Oxon Hill High School in 1960 and was a member of the FBLA, Glee Club, Girls’ Recreation Club, and Pep Club. As a young woman, she worked at the National Science Foundation as a secretary in Washington, D.C. In 1963 she married the love of her life, Chuck, and became a proud Air Force wife. She loved and adored Chuck for her entire life. In addition to being an Air Force wife, Ginny took pride in being a dedicated homemaker, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking and made delicious meals for her family. After her two children were grown, Ginny became a White House Volunteer in the Correspondence Office under three different presidents. She met many interesting people at the White House, and was well liked by those she worked with. One of her hobbies was baking and her goodies were always a big hit at the office. Ginny loved fishing and crabbing on the bay and rivers, and it was a life-long activity stemming from childhood. She enjoyed dancing, listening to music, and playing cards with her husband and friends. Ginny appreciated sports and was a fan of the Redskins, Senators and Nationals. On summer weekends she could often be seen playing horseshoes in the backyard with family and neighbors as the sun went down. She was a talented league bowler in the 1970s, and in the 80s she coached her daughter’s summer league softball team. Ginny loved watching her children’s sporting events and was always there, cheering them on from the sidelines. She was also involved with her son’s Cub Scout pack, and school activities for both of her children. One of the things Ginny always looked forward to were family reunions with her siblings, cousins, aunts and uncles. She also looked forward to attending county fairs and craft fairs. She had an exceptional talent for buying perfect and meaningful gifts for people and wrapping them beautifully. It was one of the ways she expressed her love for others. A memorial service will be held at Jefferson Funeral Chapel, 5755 Castlewellan Dr. Alexandria, VA 22315, on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at 4PM.
