Violet J. Lee

Violet J. Lee, 82, of Sanibel Island, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 after a brief illness. Vi was born in Milford, Virginia on November 2, 1931 to John and Jessie Ware. She grew up in New Jersey and later returned to Virginia where she met and married her love and life-long companion, Maurice "Dean" Lee who predeceased her only three years ago. Vi was employed for most of her career working for and retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Engineering and Development Laboratories at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia. After she and her husband retired, they spent several years enjoying their growing families of children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and visiting national and state parks and other wonders of America – usually as part of a caravan of three travel trailers with two other cousins and their wives. And, when they were not traveling, they divided their time between their homes in Fairfax County, Virginia and Sanibel Island, Florida. Vi had a daughter, Tana Lee Smith of Port Tobacco, Maryland who predeceased her, and has a son, Gary D. Lee who currently resides in Ft. Myers, Florida, and stepson, Ronald D. Lee, who currently resides in Tallahassee, Florida. She is also survived and blessed by five grandchildren and four great grandchildren: Gary D. Lee II of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania together with his daughter Cameron; Greg A. Lee of Wasilla, Alaska together with his two sons Keean and Cole; Caitlin A. Lee of Powhatan, Virginia together with her daughter Addison, Courtney Lee Carpenter of St. Louis, Missouri, and Jennifer Lee Chapman of Tallahassee, Florida. Vi is also survived by her sister, Doris Abbott of Fairfax, Virginia and her brother Glenn Ware of Dayton, Nevada, and was predeceased by her brother Gilbert Ware. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at Jefferson Funeral Home, 5575 Castlewellan Drive, Alexandria, Virginia. Following visitation, a service and interment will take place at 2:00 p.m. at Mount Comfort Cemetery, located at 6600 S. Kings Hwy., Alexandria, Virginia.
