Robert "Scott" Smith

Robert “Scott” Smith, known affectionately to those who loved him as Scott, Dad, and Pop Pop, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on May 8, 2026, at the age of 68. Born on November 7, 1957, in Washington, D.C., Scott was raised in Falls Church, Virginia. He attended St. James Elementary School and Bishop O’Connell High School, where he formed lifelong connections and values that guided him throughout his life. Scott was the beloved husband of Debra Smith – The love of his life, with whom he shared 45 years of marriage. Together, they built a family that became the center of his world. In addition to his wife Debra, he is survived by his sons, Ash (Ashley) and Bradley (David); and his four grandchildren, Tucker, Peyton, Madison, and Oliver, who brought him immeasurable joy and pride. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Rick (Wendy) Smith, Doug Smith, Lynn Pedrotti, Kathy Smith, Jeff (Elissa) Smith, and Pam (Richard) Montaño, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nelson H. and Patricia R. Smith; his brother, Mike Smith; his sister, Patricia “Trish” Smith; sister-in-law, Nancy Smith; brothers-in-law, Fred Pedrotti and Joan Hollerich; and his niece, Angie Smith. In 1975, Scott began his career at Smitty’s Building Supply, the family business founded by his parents. Scott spent more than 35 years contributing to the success of the business. In March 2009, he co-founded Window and Door Showplace alongside his sister, Lynn Pedrotti, and nephew, Jason Worrell. Together, they grew the company into one of the leading window and door suppliers in the DMV area. Known for his loyalty, selflessness, and quick wit, Scott was a man who spoke through his actions. He worked tirelessly to provide for his family and led more by example than words. He showed his love by consistently showing up for those he cared about through every season of life. Scott possessed a larger-than-life personality and a presence that could light up any room. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. A private family burial will be held on May 28, 2026, in Middleburg, Virginia. Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life on May 29, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Clyde’s Willow Creek Farm (Chandler Barn) in Broadlands, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Scott by spending time with those you love most and never take that time for granted.
