Polo Dalanaj

Polo Dalanaj, 74, passed away on December 15, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Polo was born in Vlore, Albania on February 1, 1949 to parents Xhipe and Esmere Dalanaj. His passion for books, science and nature at young age led him to attend a professional high school in Berat followed by an engineering tech degree at the University of Tirana. After graduation he performed mandatory Albanian military service which lead him to employment as a technician constructing hydro-electric plants in Shkoder and surveyor for Laura National park. During this time he met his wife Rakibe while she was working as nurse at their hometown hospital. Soon after, he moved to Vlore and married the love of his life. His education and military experience instilled a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation leading him to fulfill a career in Albania as engineering technician for the surveying and extraction of oil. Polo’s determination and resilience were the hallmarks of his character, guiding him throughout his life. On July of 1998 Polo, his wife and kids embarked on a journey to the United States in pursuit of a brighter future for their children to succeed. Among Polo’s passions were Albanian music, tending to fruit trees, playing chess, studying history, and watching soccer. Yet, his greatest joy was through moments shared with his family. His memory and legacy will forever be a blessing to his family and will continue in the lives of his children, grandchildren and in the memories of all those who had the privilege of knowing him. His warmth, kindness and generosity extended to all who were fortunate enough to call him a friend. His smile, joy and conversations will be deeply missed, but forever remembered. Polo is survived by his loving wife Rakibe, and their three children, Mirela (Joshua), Marenglen (Aurela), Jorina (Miguel), and his four beautiful grandchildren Lukas, Lusiana, Nikolas and Vincent, who will remember him fondly. Also, Polo is survived by his brothers Petrit and Tomori of Corfu Greece and Lefter of Saranda Albania, many loved ones from his wife’s big family and his many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. Polo was predeceased by few loved ones of his family back home. Polo will be immensely missed by the many family and friends who were blessed to have him as part of their lives. There are some who bring a light so great to the world that even after they have gone the light remains.
