Paul Thomas Michael

On Thursday, September 14, 2017, Paul T. Michael passed away at his home in Alexandria, Virginia. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Michele, his daughter, Jennifer Nicholson and her husband, Thaddeus, and his beloved grandson, Wyatt. Also surviving are his sisters, Mary Andreoni and Nora Agosta, his brother, Henry Michael and wife, Marilyn, and all of his “Maryland cousins” in the Argauer, Michael, and Murphy families. He dearly loved his in-laws, Mike and Michelle Morrison, Jeanne Mulvihill, Steve and Melinda King, Jim and Janice Morrison, L.P. and Karen Morrison, and Jeff Morrison, and all of his nieces, nephews, and friends, too many to list. Paul was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 8, 1946, to Julius and Florence Michael. He was the youngest of six siblings. Paul was about one year old when the family moved to Miami, Florida. He graduated from Archbishop Curley High School and then attended Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska on a basketball scholarship. Although he stood 6’6, he was listed as 6’8 in the media guide, and held his own under the basket against the likes of Elvin Hayes. It was also at Creighton where Paul met the love of his life, Michele, during sophomore year. Paul stayed on at Creighton to attend law school. He finished at the top of his class and was an editor for the Law Review. Following graduation, Paul and Michele moved to the Washington, DC area where he began his career in public service at the Department of Justice as a trial attorney in the civil division. He then spent several years in private practice representing Eastern Airlines, before returning to public service at the Department of Energy. Paul enjoyed antiquing, crossword puzzles, and all things related to sports, especially the Chicago Bears and the Washington Nationals. He loved nothing more than being with his family and cherished his role as “PopPop” to his beloved Wyatt. Paul’s humor, kindness, larger-than-life personality, and generosity will be sorely missed. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John and Walter Michael; sister, Catherine Carlino; nephews, Wade Michael and Ambrose King; niece, Mary Agosta; and grand-pup, Grace. A Mass will be held at Queen of Apostles, 4401 Sano Street, Alexandria, Virginia on September 23, 2017 at 1:00 pm followed by a burial at Fairfax Memorial Park.
