Patricia Lunceford Renner

Patricia “Pat” Anne Lunceford Renner passed away after a brief illness on February 25, 2021. Born in Alexandria, Virginia on March 17, 1949, she was the youngest of a large family. Patricia is preceded in death by her parents, Wallace and Mary Lunceford, her loving husband of 47 years, William Wayne Renner and several half-brothers and sisters. A loving mother, “mimi”, sister, and aunt, she is survived by: her daughter, Susan Segura (Luis), and son, Stephen Renner (Kirsten); grandchildren: William and Justin Renner, and Hailey and Riley Segura; sister, Kathryn Woodley (Doug) and sister-in-law Mary Ellen Johnson (Jack). She is also survived by nieces and nephews Beth Woodley, Brian, Woodley, Bobby Johnson, Jill Carabotta, and their families. Pat grew up in the Del Ray neighborhood where she was an active member of Del Ray United Methodist Church, participating in the choir and youth group. She was a graduate of the George Washington High School class of 1967. In 1971, she graduated from Longwood College, where she was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority, with a degree in business education. While working full-time and raising a family, Pat went on to obtain a master’s degree from George Mason University in 1985 in Secondary Education. Pat spent her first year as an educator at St. Patrick’s Academy in Washington, DC from 1971-1972. In the Fall of 1972, Pat joined the Fairfax County Public Schools system where she was a beloved teacher for over 30 years at Groveton/West Potomac High School. In addition to teaching, she served as Department Chair for the Business Department, was a COE coordinator, and mentored numerous students over the duration of her career. She made a deep impact in the lives of her students and kept in touch with many of them over the years. To this day, her former students recount many of her wonderful stories and “life lessons” that she shared both in and out of the classroom. Pat was an active member at Springfield United Methodist Church for several years and later attended Immanuel Bible Church. A true servant of Christ, she had a passion for helping others and went out of her way to make sure their needs were met. To say her generosity knew no bounds would be an understatement. She leaves behind a legacy of giving of herself in every way possible and never thought twice about donating to others in need through gifts, her time, and energy. Even in her final days, Pat showed concern and spent her energy ensuring that those she knew and loved would be cared for in her absence. All who were privileged to know her were profoundly touched by her selfless nature. When she wasn’t busy in the classroom, Pat thoroughly enjoyed spending time with friends and loved ones, traveling with family, and building her beautiful garden that was the envy of many. A celebration of life will be held at Immanuel Bible Church (6911 Braddock Road, Springfield, VA 22151) on Monday, April 26 at 10:00 am followed by a private family interment.
