Patricia Mote Crocker

Patricia Mote Crocker found peace on May 13, 2014 after a three month long illness. Her husband of 55 years and proud graduate of West Point's class of '51, Lawrence Pope Crocker, preceded her in death by eight years, and her son, Michael Lawrence, preceded her in death by fourteen years. She is survived by her daughter, Katherine Anne Crocker; sons and daughters-in-law, David Wayne and Ruth Karen Crocker, and Richard Lloyd and Debora Patricia Crocker; and daughter-in-law, Charle Anne Crocker-Gehrts. The true delights of her life were her grandchildren, Kristen (Cole) Jorde; Nicole (Steven) Phillips; Natalie (Peter) Gallo; Brian Crocker; Christopher Crocker; Julia Crocker; and William Crocker, as well as her great-grandchildren, Ashton Jorde, Eleanore Jorde, and Jeremiah Gallo. She very much regretted that she will not be here for the births this year of three more great-grandchildren. Pat was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. She graduated from East High School, and went on to attend the University of Utah. There she joined the Phi Mu sorority, and graduated in 1950 with her B.S. in Nursing. After graduation she moved to the state of New York to be near her sweetheart, Larry. They were married after his graduation in 1951. Pat was a true Army wife, always doing what she could to make her family feel cared for and comfortable no matter where they lived. She spent many years volunteering as a home room mother, Girl Scout leader, and Cub Scout den mother. She volunteered for the Red Cross as a nurse and educator in Kansas, Virginia, and the District of Columbia for over 25 years. Pat was an accomplished seamstress, and enjoyed all card games, especially bridge. In particular she was a devotee of Duplicate Bridge, and she was a skilled Cribbage player. After the death of her husband, Pat moved to The Fairfax retirement community where she served as a building representative, a job she enjoyed and took very seriously, and where she was able to join several bridge groups. She also delighted in being able to reconnect with other members of Phi Mu, and people she had known for many years through West Point connections and through the many moves expected of an Army wife. Pat took great pride in her home and her belongings, and she never left home without looking "all put together." She especially took satisfaction in having beautiful nails to complement her expressive hands. The reception to celebrate her life will be held at the Community Center at The Fairfax on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 2:00 pm. It is located at 9140 Belvoir Woods Parkway, Ft. Belvoir, VA 22060. On a date yet to be determined she will join her husband in the Columbarium at Arlington National Cemetery after a graveside service. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the American Red Cross at www.redcross.org.
