Marsha May Thomas

It is with great sadness that the family of Marsha May Thomas announces her passing from metastatic breast cancer on Tuesday, June 19, 2018, at home with her loving family in Alexandria, VA. Marsha was born on July 8, 1946, to Laurence and Armoury Kendall, in Denver, CO. She graduated from high school at Campion Academy in Loveland, CO, and attended Union College in Lincoln, NE. Marsha worked at the Kansas-Nebraska Conference of Seventh-day Adventists in Topeka, KS. She married her first husband, Randolph Stonequist, and they moved to Lansing, KS, where she worked as a secretary first at the Kansas State Penitentiary and then at the Command and General Staff College at Ft. Leavenworth. They had one daughter, Erika. She later married her current husband of 37 years, Kenneth “Pete” Thomas on January 7, 1981, and moved to Leavenworth, KS. Following her retirement in 1996, Marsha and Pete moved to TN to be near her family. They returned to Leavenworth to care for Pete’s mother, back to TN, and then to Derby, KS, before settling in Alexandria, VA, in 2016. Marsha is well known for her faith and dedication to God, honoring every special occasion with a card, always making herself available to talk on the phone, generosity to any friend in need, and her love of Scrabble. Marsha will forever live on in the hearts of her husband Pete Thomas; daughter Erika (Dan) King; step-son Kenneth “Todd” (Arlene) Thomas; granddaughters Tiffany, Cheyenne, and Christina; great-grandson Nathan; brother Walter (Kathi) Kendall; sisters Sandra Milholen, Jean Jones, Cheryl Kendall, and Ramona Kathleen (Jerry) Wood; numerous nieces and nephews; and family in Christ. She was predeceased by her parents, step-son Daniel Thomas, and brothers Laurence and John Kendall. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 8, at 11:00 a.m., at the Community Praise Church, 1400 Russell Road, Alexandria, VA. Memorial donations in memory of Marsha can be sent to the Community Praise Church. Please indicate if the donation should be put toward the Christian Education Scholarship Program or the Meals for the Homeless Program.
