Lewis L. Reign, Jr. (92) On January 19, 2014 of Alexandria, VA. Preceded in death by loving wife, Marjorie Nixon Reign. Father of Michael (Krystyna) Reign and Karen (Eric) Hediger; grandfather of Nathaniel Lewis Reign and Brendon (Emily) Dibella; great-grandfather of Clara Marie Dibella. Lewis L. Reign, Jr, Army officer, combat and professional engineer, was born in Salem, NJ, raised in Wilmington, DE and Penns Grove, NJ, attended the University of Delaware, and was awarded a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering; he completed graduate programs at Virginia Polytechnic Institute, and received a Master's degree in Civil Engineering from Iowa State University. He was an officer in the Army Corps of Engineers and served in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, retiring after 30 years of service pursuing a professional engineering career. During World War II he served in the Pacific. He served as an Assistant Professor of Military Tactics at City College New York City and completed the Engineer Officer Advanced Course at Ft Belvoir, VA. His service included the 7oth Engineer Combat Battalion, Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and assignments at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; Fort Knox, Kentucky, and the Defense Atomic Support Agency at the Pentagon. As an engineering officer he embarked on a series of public works and construction assignments. His overseas military tours of duty included the Joint Construction Agency (JCA) in Bordeaux, France, and Okinawa in the OICC. His last assignment was with The Office of the Engineer Inspector General (EIG) in Washington, DC. After his military retirement in 1973, Lewis worked for the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC), and DeLeuw Cather (Parsons) as part the general engineering consulting team for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) until his retirement in 1997. He was a life member of the research honor society Sigma Xi, the American Society of Professional Engineers, and the Disabled American Veterans Association. He was an active volunteer with the Mount Vernon Hospital Auxiliary, and AARP's local Mount Vernon Chapter having served as chapter president. He was a member of the Ft Belvoir Chapel and active in various professional engineering associations, and local Alexandria community programs. He enjoyed his undergraduate football program; the "Fighting Blue Hens" and was a season ticket holder for numerous years supporting his Delaware alumni. His military decorations for service with the Corps included the Army Commendation Medal, Legion of Merit, and the Bronze Star Medal. Relatives and friends may call at Jefferson Funeral Chapel, 5755 Castlewellan Dr., Alexandria, VA on Saturday, January 25 from 10AM until time of service at 11AM. A funeral service and interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery on a later date.
