Kurt C. Fritzinger

Kurt Fritzinger passed away on Mother’s Day (May 12) after fighting a long, courageous battle with cancer. What a warrior! He is survived by his beloved wife, Elaine Keller, and their 4 sons: Scott Fritzinger (Danelle), Eric Fritzinger, Matthew Keller, and Andrew Keller. Grandchildren include Matt, Katie, Abby, Nicholas, Noah, Gabriel, Samuel, Timothy, Jacob, Joshua, Theon, Klaus, Zac, and Zoe “Luna” Keller. He is also survived by two sisters, Katherine Fritzinger Farmer of Roanoke, VA, and Karol Fritzinger Kaldenbach (Ken) of Woodbridge. Nieces include Cynthia Fritzinger Bayne (Andrew), Jennifer Fritzinger Barnes (Dakota), Catherine Cogswell White (Roger), Laura Fritzinger, and Kate Kaldenbach. Kate adored her uncle, and lovingly called him “Uncle Wonderful”. Nephews include Andrew Poush (Maricris), James Poush (Makiko), Thomas Fritzinger II, William Fritzinger, Joseph Fritzinger (Christina), and Matthew Fritzinger (Jessie). He was predeceased by his parents Harry and Mildred Fritzinger, older brother Thomas Fritzinger (Anne), younger brother Karl (Cindy), and his twin sister Kay Fritzinger Cogswell (Michael). Kurt graduated from Edison High School in 1966. After graduating from George Mason University in 1970, Kurt enlisted in the U.S. Army where he rose to the rank of sergeant. He served during the Viet Nam war era, stationed in South Korea. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and Sharp-Shooter (M-16) medal. Upon his honorable discharge in 1973, he continued serving his country by joining the U.S. Capitol Police Department. One of his favorite assignments was to the Patrol Division, where he rode a motorcycle. When he retired in January of 2001, he was an administrative sergeant. During his retirement he purchased a motorcycle. His wife set two conditions: “It has to have a seat for me, and you have to buy me a helmet.” He most happily complied with those terms, and they enjoyed many a ride together. Another favorite past-time was bowling. He played in many leagues, was an excellent bowler, and had the 300-ring (perfect game) to prove it. He was also a good teacher, with at least one of the kids he coached growing up to roll several 300 games. Kurt would begin his hand-crafted, perfectly created Christmas gifts in June for his family and friends. He would also make one special gift for his beloved twin sister. His family has cherished these works of art for many years. He was very supportive of his wife when she joined the George Mason Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), especially when she was asked to serve as Chapter Regent. His support earned him the title of HODAR (Husband of DAR). At the chapter’s annual memorial service, he will be honored along with chapter members who passed during the year. Kurt and Elaine are members of Silverbrook United Methodist Church. When Kurt became too ill to attend in person, Elaine would set up the computer so he could join the service via WebEx. During his healthier days, he was active in the Men’s Group. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Silverbrook United Methodist Church 8616 Silverbrook Rd Lorton, VA 22079
