Kathleen Anne Marrs

Kathleen Anne Marrs (Kathy), born May 19, 1943, in East Orange, NJ passed away peacefully March 21, 2025, in Alexandria, VA, due to complications from Lewy Body Dementia. She was the beloved and dutiful daughter of the late Charles and Rosalyn Greenberg Dennis. Kathy is survived by a true gentleman and life partner Stephen L. Jones, his unwavering devotion she knew for 52 years, her two daughters, Terri Marrs Auricchio of Las Vegas, NV; Kristina Marrs McGonnigal (Bruce) of Tampa, FL; her brother Charles Dennis Jr. (Marie) of Broad Run, VA; and her aunt Maxine Beaulieu of Avon by the Sea, NJ. Kathy is “Nana” to six grandchildren: Tyler and Daimi Auricchio of Las Vegas, NV; Madison McGonnigal of Denver, CO; Joseph McGonnigal of St. Petersburg, FL; Henry McGonnigal of Jacksonville, FL; and Georgina McGonnigal of Tampa, FL. Kathy was a military brat growing up on several Army bases around the world including Ft. Bragg, Ft. Benning, Ft. Campbell, Camp Haugen in Hachinohe, Japan, Seneca Army Depot, NY, and finally the U.S. Army Garrison Caserma Ederle, in Vicenza, Italy. Very popular attending the American High School there, graduating in 1961, Kathy was Cheerleading Captain, First Chair Flute, and a member of numerous clubs. Kathy pursued a career with the Defense Intelligence Agency while raising two daughters and going to night school to finish her accounting degree. Rising fast in the ranks, Kathy sharpened her analyst skills with the Army Nuclear Power Program at Ft. Belvoir and subsequently to the Urban Mass Transit Administration. Kathy finished her career in 2003 at the top of her game with a high-ranking position, GS-15 Senior Budget Analyst for the US DOT. She was highly respected for her judgment and expertise, influential in policy and budget issues, and declined a generous offer to postpone her retirement. Kathy loved attending her daughters’ softball games, band competitions, dance recitals, horse shows, and drill team events. She loved to travel, cream in her coffee and hated Steve’s decrepit Porsche. She loved chocolate covered cherries, high test Coca Cola, Blue Crabs, crepes, Brenner’s Fudge Topped swirl shortbread cookies and disliked most vegetables. She loved Fluffy, Holly, and Maxi; her three dogs who predeceased her. She gave great advice, “Never go to the grocery store hungry”. She loved estate sales, flower shows, and her Mercedes. She loved the daily crossword, sending an overload of Christmas gifts in November, and hearing from her grandchildren. But most of all, she loved Steve, her best friend, and the love of her life. She was independent, a bit feisty, and very generous. She will be remembered fondly and missed dearly.
