Kathleen Lloyd-Braff

Kathleen Lloyd-Braff passed away at home on September 27th at the age of 70. She was born in New York City on January 15 1953 to John Edward Lloyd III and Josephine Krish Lloyd. She was the second of three children. She attended Immaculate Conception grammar school and St. Vincent Ferrer High school. She then went on to obtain a number of higher education degrees: an Associate in Arts at Elizabeth Seton College in New York, a Bachelor of Science from SUNY Geneseo in New York, and a Master of Education at the College of Charleson in South Carolina. She received. She later received an Associate Degree in Applied Art, with a specialization in photography, from Northern Virginia Community College. She spent time in the summer swimming at her paternal grandparents’ lake in Denville, New Jersey. She liked to ice skate there in the winter although the one-hour trip almost always ended in her getting car sick just before the family arrived. She enjoyed dressing up and wearing make up as a young girl. She had beautiful blond hair as a child. In her early adult years, she worked as a speech pathologist. She traveled to Mexico, England, and around Europe. She knew some French language, and did French courses with her daughter. After having her daughter, she went each year to Disney World with her husband and daughter. They also enjoyed traveling to the seaside together, especially Bethany Beach in Delaware. She was a very talented artist. She especially enjoyed working with water color paints and colored pencils. She could find beauty in the smallest things and could make artful arrangements out of everyday items and knick-knacks. As an adult, she loved coloring books, especially by the pen artist Johanna Basford, and would complete one or more coloring books each year. She would receive them each year for Christmas, along with a plethora of bubble bath. She had a sweet tooth, and loved See’s Candy, Baskin Robbin’s ice-cream (her favorite flavor was cookies and cream), and cakes from Hollin Hall Bakery. She enjoyed eating different food with her family; together they would enjoy Chinese food, Indian food, Mexican food, and bagels. She occasionally enjoyed a McDonalds hamburger and a coke. She especially enjoyed one Thanksgiving when her daughter and son-in-law brought in an entirely vegan thanksgiving feast. She is predeceased by her younger brother John Lloyd IV. She is survived by her daughter Laura Lloyd-Braff, son-in-law Andrew Cartwright, older sister Dr. Christine Lloyd, and her nephews John Lloyd, Matthew Lloyd, Alex Lloyd Brener, and Andrew Brener. Her Celebration of Life will take place alongside her husband’s, on October 20th, 2023, at 11am, at Jefferson Funeral Chapel (5755 Castlewellan Drive, Alexandria, VA 22315).
