Julia Farrell Gerow

Julia F. Gerow, 87, of Springfield, VA, passed on to be with the Lord and her final reward on July 12, 2021. She was born on May 14, 1934 in Van Buren, Maine to Roy and Alma Farrell. She was one of 9 siblings. Julia attended Waterville High School. After graduating from high school she went to work for the Waterville phone company as a phone operator. She married the love of her life, Francis Gerow, in 1955. Julia and Frank raised 5 children as they moved to various Navy communities during his Naval career. Alexandria, Va became home to them for 30+ years from 1974 until 2007 when they moved into the Greenspring Retirement Village in Springfield, Va. Julia was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed time with her family, gardening, sunbathing in the pool, sewing and crafts. She loved eating lobster and she knew how to pick them clean. Julia was thrilled to be a grandmother and she was known as Memere to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Julia loved to entertain and was always the life of the party… she will be dearly missed by her family and friends. After raising her family, Julia worked for the Christmas Attic in Old Town Alexandria, as a clerk for the Fairfax County Tax Office and in the gift shop at George Washington’s Mount Vernon. She enjoyed volunteering her time for many causes and was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church for over 30 years. Julia was predeceased by her husband, Frank, of 58 years. Julia leaves her five children, Michelle (Christian) Kasak of Charlotte, NC, Frank (Connie) Gerow, of Alexandria, Va, Edward (Annette) Gerow, of Fairfax, Va, Peter (Diane) Gerow, of Indialantic, Fla, and Philip (Coleen) Gerow, of Alexandria; two sisters, Anita Mathieu and Sadie Belliveau; 10 grandchildren, Zac and Philip Kasak, Jacquelyn Turner, Nicole Rooney, Stephanie Droussiotis, Frank, Eddie, Julia, Rachael and Luke Gerow, 5 great grandchildren; Harper and Gavin Kasak, Ava and Mason Rooney, Gwen Turner and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends can gather at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 8710 Mount Vernon Hwy, Alexandria, Va, on Friday, Aug 13, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. until her Mass of Christian burial which will be at 12:00 noon.
