Jennie Barnaba Miller

Jennie Barnaba Miller, 65, of Alexandria, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2026. Born in Hawaii on June 7, 1960, Jennie lived a life centered on faith, service, education, and caring for others. She was the beloved wife of David Richard Miller, loving sister of Sonny and Virginia, and a devoted friend and encourager to many whose lives she touched through her kindness and generosity. Jennie attended Leilehua High School before earning her bachelor’s degree in journalism from University of Hawaii. Her passion for serving others and sharing her faith became a defining part of her life. She faithfully served for many years as the church secretary at First Baptist Church of Honolulu, where she worked tirelessly inviting people to church and helping anyone in need. Jennie became well known throughout Hawaii for driving countless people to and from church services, appointments, and events, selflessly putting others before herself. Her dedication was perhaps best reflected in the remarkable 499,000 miles she put on her faithful Toyota Tercel while serving others across the islands. Jennie met David R. Miller in 1993, and their connection quickly grew into a lifelong partnership. On their second date, she took David to the Big Island of Hawaii, beginning a love story that would span more than three decades. They married in February 1995 and again in June 1995 while David was serving in the United States Navy so they could begin their life together off the ship. Together they traveled the world during David’s Navy career and beyond, sharing 33 wonderful years together, including 31 years of marriage. Never satisfied with standing still, Jennie continued her education later in life by earning a master’s degree in paralegal studies from George Washington University. After moving to Virginia, she faithfully served at First Baptist Church of Alexandria as part of the audio and visual ministry team, where she was known for her encouragement, kindness, and willingness to help wherever needed. She was always supporting David and uplifting others with her quiet strength, compassion, and unwavering faith. Jennie will be remembered as a sweet, wonderful, and selfless person whose life reflected love, service, and devotion to God, family, and friends. Her warmth, laughter, encouragement, and servant’s heart left a lasting impact on everyone who knew her. She is survived by her devoted husband, David R. Miller, her siblings Sonny and Virginia, and their beloved cats, Oscar and Margux. “I will really miss her,” David shared. A memorial service celebrating Jennie’s life will be held on May 15, 2026, at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Alexandria and will also be livestreamed for family and friends unable to attend in person. Jennie chose cremation, and the service will be a memorial celebration of her life and faith. Following the service and after establishing a new home in Jacksonville, David plans to return Jennie’s ashes to Hawaii, where they will be lovingly spread in the place she always called home.
