James Edwin Reed Sr.

James Edwin Reed Sr. (67) passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2023, of Haymarket, VA. Loving husband to Claudia Gail Reed; beloved father to James Edwin Reed Jr. (Barbara) and Raymond Michael Reed (Stacey); cherished brother to LuAnn Gierl (Dave), Marlene Harvey (Jeff), Nancy Feathers (Henry), and Leonard Reed. Treasured grandfather to Alexis, Bradley, Ashley, Caleb, and Levi. Special uncle to many nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents Paul Donald Reed Sr and Ruth Elaine Chambers Reed and his brother Paul Reed, Jr. He will be dearly missed by his precious family and friends. Jim was born in Windber, PA on March 11, 1956, to Paul Donald Reed Sr. and Ruth Elaine Chambers Reed. He was one of six children. Jim met the love of his life, Gail, during their freshman year of high school; his treasured wife he spent 48 beautiful years with. He moved down to VA and started his career at Atlas Machine and Iron in Gainesville, VA where he spent 9.5 years working with steel and building bridges. He continued his career at Seminary Plaza Exxon in Alexandria, VA, working many years with his sons James and Ray, as well as his brother Len. They created countless memories during their years together there. Jim never knew a stranger and over the years shared close relationships with many customers who became dear friends of his. Jim finished his career at Wiygul Automotive in Alexandria, VA as a Service Writer/Manger until his retirement at the end of 2021. Upon retirement he enjoyed working in his yard, fixing up his cars, spending time with his family, and his sweet black lab, Katie, who brought him so much joy. Outside of his working years, Jim enjoyed his 7 years of volunteering at Stonewall Jackson Fire Department, Company 11. Gail and Jim had many wonderful friends from their years at the firehouse. Jim could always be found working in the garage or on a house project. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone that needed it. Jim will be remembered by his family and all who loved him for the way he loved and the way he could always make anyone laugh. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Relatives and friends may call at Jefferson Funeral Chapel, 5755 Castlewellan Drive, Alexandria, VA 22315, on Saturday, June 10, 2023, from 12-1PM. Funeral service will begin at 1PM.
