James S. Albanese

On Monday August 28, 2017, Jim Albanese passed away at his home in Lorton, Virginia from the ravages of multiple myeloma. He is survived by his wife, Andrea and his children Christopher, Jacob, Gianna, Evelyn and Lucy, as well as his parents, Jim and Mary Albanese, his sisters Pamela Fitzgibbons and husband John, Christine Kremer and husband Isaac, and his brother Michael Albanese. His in-laws are Jim and Joanne King and brother-in-law Aaron and wife Sarah King. He loved ten nieces, nephews and Godchildren. Jim was born on January 16, 1975 in Washington, DC. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Springfield, Virginia where he was Student Body President. He attended The University of Virginia where he majored in Civil Engineering and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering. He began his professional career with Clark Construction immediately upon graduation and was proud of what they built. He transitioned to a Clark subsidiary, Metro Earthworks where his team won local awards as well as the 2011 American Society of Civil Engineers, National Excellence in Construction award for their work on the Coast Guard Headquarters building. He was also very pleased about his professional contributions to the National Museum of African American History and Culture on the Mall in Washington, DC. Also right after graduation, Jim became a member of Youth Apostles, an organization of Catholic men dedicated to bringing youth into a loving, dynamic relationship with Christ. In 2001 as a Youth Apostle and with support from Clark Construction, he spent a year in the Dominican Republic at the mission church in Banica. In 2016 he made a lifetime commitment to Youth Apostles. Jim loved nothing more than playing with his kids. He came home from work everyday with his family in mind. Optimistic Jim fought his cancer tirelessly. With grace and courage he was coaching his son's lacrosse team to a Championship, even while his legs were giving out. If he was your friend, you had a great one and he had many. He loved sports and UVA. You may think his favorite team is the Redskins, but he's now an early pick for the eternal team he's always aspired to, the saints. As Andrea has said, Jim did not lose his battle with cancer: the miracle was that Jim won his ultimate battle to join our Lord in heaven.
