Graydon Ira Lose

Graydon Ira Lose (deceased September 19, 2019) was born in the small Pennsylvania town of Middleburg on July 12, 1932. He was the only child of Ira Lose and Margaret Kline Lose. His father, a World War I veteran, was a school teacher and then an elected County official, who died when Graydon was five years old. His mother died in 1977. Graydon received a BS degree from Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, PA in 1954. He did graduate work in management at Temple University and was awarded the MBA degree from American University in 1967. Graydon served in the United States Army and was assigned to Taegu, South Korea. Graydon married Jacqueline Poe Lose in 1977 and has three stepsons, Jim, Don, and Jeff - seven grandchildren, James, Chris, Loren, Chelsea, Peri, Breckenridge, & Bryce - three great grandchildren, Jack, Shelby, & Charlotte. Graydon began his Federal career with the United States Army Audit Agency in Baltimore. He then joined the Comptroller’s office of Middletown Air Material Area at Olmstead Air Base in Pennsylvania. He was transferred to the United States Air Force Headquarters in Washington in 1962. He subsequently held various financial management positions with Bunker-Ramo Corporation, NASA Headquarters, and the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Comptroller), and in 1974, he became the Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary of Defense and handled liaison with the Congress on budget and fiscal matters. He retired from that position in 1987 with 31 years of Federal service. Graydon was awarded the Secretary of Defense Meritorious Civilian Service Award with Bronze Palm and the Department of Defense Medal for Distinguished Civilian Service. Graydon was a very active and dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Alexandria, serving as assistant director and director of the Adult 2 Sunday School department for ten years. He has served as a Deacon, member and chairman of the Missions Commission, chairman of the search committee for a minister of education, member of the property committee, nominating committee, and the 200th anniversary committee. Graydon was a member of Lodge #619, Free and Accepted Masons, Middleburg, PA, Defense Department Coin ppl Club (president - two years), and has done volunteer work at the Alexandria Hospital, ALIVE, and the American Red Cross.
