Gladys Johnson

Welcome to the Home Going of Gladys Trudell (Barnes) Johnson (71) Of Alexandria, VA passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 10, 2023. Born to the late Alfred J. and Emma (McKelvin) Barnes on January 12, 1952, in Washington DC. Gladys enjoyed many careers during her lifetime. Gladys obtained her CDL license and used it to build a career in Transportation working for Fairfax County Public Schools as a School Bus Driver, receiving numerous awards and appreciations from staff as well as touching the many lives of the children that had the privilege to ride her bus to and from school every day. Many to this day have stayed in contact with her and she has welcomed as extended family. Gladys could and would drive anything a true professional driver. She had a short tenure driving for Omnilink Commuter Services driving the big commuter buses as well as working part-time as a shuttle driver and vehicle transporter for Avis Rental car. Can you believe this “she drove a dump truck” also for a small hauling company in VA. Gladys was a true driver, not sure if there wasn’t anything she could not drive and loved road trips and traveling. She could get you anywhere in the DMV within 30 minutes flat. Gladys was a pillar to her community, a member of Rising Hope Mission Church where she volunteered in the food pantry and clothing pantry and became a beacon of information to her peers and family. Gladys a loving and caring mother leaves her legacy and memories to her children: Trinette Greene, Stevie Johnson Jr, and Katrina (Christopher) Jackson; Grandmother to Dominigue Morris, Stevie Johnson III, Jazze and Jade Greene, and Serenity, Jeremiah, and Elijah Jackson. Great Grandmother to Robert Penick, Rahzell Walker, and she was awaiting a bundle of joy due any day now Kureese (Jackson) Greene. Sister Gloria Barnes of Washington, DC. Nieces Abina (Jamil) Johnson, Shanisha (Travis) Barrinos. Great-nephews Jamil Johnson Jr, Jairus and Kendric Barrinos and Ex-husband Stevie Johnson SR, and a host of caring cousins, relatives, and friends. She will truly be missed by many. Relatives and friends may be received at Jefferson Funeral Chapel 5755 Castlewellan Drive, Alexandria, VA 22315, Monday, December 18, 2023, from 3PM-7PM. A funeral service will take place Tuesday, December 19, 2023, 11AM-12PM. Memorial contributions may be made to anyone of her children or a charity of your choice.
