David E. Ramey

David E. Ramey, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, June 9, 2016, in Springfield, Virginia, at the age of 68. David was born May 14, 1948, in Front Royal, Virginia, to James Edward Ramey and Ruth Elizabeth Sealock. David lost his parents early in life and was raised by his grandparents Russel and Minnie Sealock of Front Royal. As a young child, David liked most kids, loved comics, baseball cards, and riding his bike down long country roads. The cool wind on his neck and fresh adventure on the horizon steered his young path and satisfied his day. Growing up, he would frequent the local drive-in movie theater where he became a regular, watching such classic movies as Ben-Hur and The 10 Commandments. The warm salty popcorn and fizzy soda to sip in-between the laughter, the thrill, and the occasional tear, he continue to have a deep love and appreciation for classic movies throughout his life. He was inducted in the Army on April 10, 1968. He bravely served in the Vietnam War and earned the Purple Heart, among other medals and honor of valor. After serving his country, David worked as a Postal Clerk for the majority of his career and he later retired from Systems Connections of Maryland. During his life, David was also someone you could rely on to help out. This was exemplified by his near decade of service in the Dale City Volunteer Fire Department becoming a Lieutenant and driver for Station 13 He married Peggy Boyle on June 8, 1974, and they adopted two children, James and Mariluz. Although he and Peggy later divorced, they remained close friends, continuing to do things together and as a family. More than anything, David loved his family and enjoyed being there for all moments, big and small. David was always the type of person to help out, if and when he could. He will be greatly missed. David also enjoyed auto racing, civil war reenactments, parades of any type, and during all seasons, traveling, and most of all hockey. He loved being able to combine these passions and enjoyed traveling to see hockey games with other hockey fans, or for concerts of his favorite bands. David was also an avid animal lover! He once picked up a young dog on the side of the road that had been hit by a car. He took it straight to the animal hospital. He and Peggy later acquired other animals, Buttons, Princess, Sammy, Squeaky and Cry Baby. He fed the stray kitties at their apartment building and took in several that were hurt. He later adopted there kitties of his own, Angel, Sandy and Jack whom he loved very much. David is survived by his two children James Ramey and wife Marianne of Springfield, Virginia; Mariluz Ramey of Manassas, Virginia; his sister Ruth Lathe and husband Steve of Coatesville, PA; and two grandsons Mateo Ramey and Mikey Quesenberry as well as aunts (especially Aunt Betty), cousins, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Monday, June 27 at the Jefferson Funeral Chapel, 5755 Castlewellan Drive in Alexandria, Virginia.
