Allan Somoroff

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Allan Somoroff, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and accomplished professional, who passed away peacefully on January 14, 2025. Allan was the beloved husband of Lynne Somoroff, his high school sweetheart and the love of his life. They shared over 67 years together, 60 of them as husband and wife—a partnership that stood as a testament to love, patience, and commitment. Together, they raised two children, Michael Somoroff and Andrea Henriques, who were the pride and joy of his life. Allan’s greatest happiness came from being "Pop" to his three cherished grandchildren—Sydney, Jonathan, and Lanie. He loved them dearly and found immense joy in watching them grow into successful adults, each excelling in math and science, just like their Pop. His wisdom, humor, and playful spirit left a lasting impression on their hearts, creating treasured memories that will endure forever. Born and raised in South Philadelphia, Allan earned both his Bachelor of Science and Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania, a testament to his brilliant mind and dedication to education. His academic achievements laid the foundation for a distinguished career in government service as an aerospace engineer. His leadership and intellect earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and peers, as well as numerous accolades, including the Rear Admiral William S. Parsons Award for Scientific and Technical Progress, the Gold Medal Award for significant contributions to naval engineering, and the President's Award for Distinguished Federal Civilian Service (PADFCS)—the highest honor the Federal Government can grant to a civilian employee. Though Allan moved away from Philadelphia, his love for the city and its sports teams never waned. A devoted fan of the Eagles and Phillies, he was especially thrilled to witness the Eagles’ historic Super Bowl victory—a moment of pure joy for him. Allan will be remembered as a man of immense intellect, humility, and kindness. His impact as a mentor, leader, and family man leaves a profound legacy in the hearts of all who knew him. A private service was held to honor Allan’s remarkable life.
