Alexander Carlisle

Alexander "Al" Carlisle, age 68 made the journey to his final assignment on Wednesday, December 20, 2018 surrounded by family and friends. He was the third child born unto the union of TJ and Amy Carlisle on November 27, 1950 in Riderwood, Alabama (Choctaw County). He accepted Christ at a young age and was united with Wahalak Baptist Church, Riderwood, Alabama. As Al traveled the many continents, he always joined in union and fellowship with other Christians and Christ centered bodies. He was currently a member of the Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling Gospel Service, serving as the bass guitarist for the Renown Gospel Choir. Al also used his talent to play the Bass guitar in several music ministries throughout his career, and was a member of the “Endangered Species” band. Al attended Choctaw County Training School in Lisman, Alabama graduating in 1967. He attended and graduated from Tuskegee Institute (Now Tuskegee University). While attending the University, he was a member of the Reserve Officer Training Corp (ROTC) where he was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant into the Air Force upon graduation. After 30 Years of Air Force service, he retired as Colonel (06) after serving at numerous assignments to include: 11th Wing Inspector, General, Washington, DC; Deputy Inspector General, Air Force Space Command, Peterson AFB, Colorado Springs, Colorado; Director of Safety, 30th Space Wing, Vandenburg AFB, California and Commander, 30th Range Squadron, Vandenberg AFB, California. After retiring from the Military, Al continued serving his country as a Federal Employee in the following positions: Deputy Director, Administrative Investigations, Depart of Veterans Affairs, Office of the Inspector General and Administrator Investigator, Department of Veterans Affairs, Office of Inspector General, Washington D.C. Al met Gail Tucker of Miami, Florida at Vandenburg AFB, California. They were joined in Holy Matrimony on May 15, 1981 and recently celebrated thirty-seven years of cherished memories together, a union ordained by God. Alexander tells the story of how he met his beloved wife (Gail) one fine January day in 1980, He saw this beautiful young woman walking across a field. The spirit of the Lord spoke to him and told him this woman would be his wife. Later he met her at an in-processing briefing and his heart melted because when he was close enough to speak, he observed that she was wearing a wedding set. He said as the day progressed, he kept watching her and believed even more that God had spoken to his heart about her being his wife. He gathered the courage to introduce himself to her and asked if her husband would mind if he took her to lunch. Her response was “what husband, I’m not married” and he knew she was the one. He confessed his love within a month and proposed marriage in six months. They were married a year and a half later. After 10 years they renewed their vows and they continued to celebrate two wedding anniversaries every year. Colonel Carlisle is preceded in death by his father, TJ Carlisle in 2002; his mother, Amy Carlisle in 2009. He leaves to cherish his memories: his loving wife Gail of Alexandria, VA; two sons, Alexander Carlisle, Jr (Angela), Tampa Florida, Derek C. Carlisle (Cynthia), Alexandria Virginia; one daughter, Stephanie Carlisle, Tam-pa, Florida; two brothers, Andrew Carlisle, Willie Carlisle (Shirley), both of Montgomery, Alabama; two sisters, Betty C. Washington (Frank) Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Melissa Carlisle, San Antonio, Texas; nine grandchildren and many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and comrades in arms.
